How to check oil vtx 1800c

Just wondering how to check the oil level should I do it when its running hot cold, I know every bike is a little different. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Level, undo dipstick, wipe, insert back DO NOT screw it in. Pull out and check. Some state that the marks are all over the chart and inaccurate. Mine is dead on. I suggest you check just after doing an oil change (and filter), refill with the gallon and then check as above. If the dipstick is accurate BINGO you got it

Do it when its warm or hot and where should it be on the dip stick exactly. Think the mechanic may have over filled me.

This got me thinking, I cannot remember the last time I check mine.

I change it so often I just do not think about it.

You do NOT check it with the engine running. Well, you can, but you'll be cleaning the bike and yourself and the floor up for a while afterwards.

On another note, does anyone's 1800 use a little bit of oil? My 1800 C doesn't smoke or anything else obvious, but I do notice it goes through about a pint of oil every 1K miles or so.

Mine used about 4 oz on my 5,000 mile trip out west. I don't call that using oil.

Ref. manual, let idle for 3-5 mins. shut down for 2-3 mins., hold bike straight upright off kickstand, insert dipstick, don't screw in, upper mark is full, lower mark means add a pint.
