Virginia - Seriously, how cold is the winter?

Looks like I may be headed that way. How cold does it really get in north eastern VA, and how long does that last? Is riding a guaranteed no-go, or do you just have to be a bit on the tough side?

Back on the road. 2003 lightly moddified 118ci C model.

been there is winter just as cold as here in Pa at times better

Hick it can be pretty diverse depending on where the wind is blowing from. South winds will keep it mostly in the 40s-50s. North winds now your talkin teens and 20s. Obviously that will determine the kind of precipitation too. After the first of the year for 10-12 weeks is when it can really go one way or the other.

better shop for some heated gear. being from texas it's gonna be really hard to get used to that first year . Brrrr

I was stationed in Norfolk years ago and rode year round on an old Virago 535. I don't remember it ever getting cold enough for the roads to ice, and it never snowed enough to stick... That was in the early 90's so I'm not sure how it is out there now.
