I bought a new battery today for my 05' F model. I bought the bike new in 08' and was still using the 'original' battery. The bike still started every time but I thought I was pressing my luck and was gonna end up stranded somewhere .
my original was in for 8 years, never gave me any trouble. I just got nervous about it and put in a new one. I knew it would crap out on me in the middle of nowhere.
So today I attempted my first ride with the new battery. The bike died in a 1/8th mile. It still has electric, lights, turn signals etc.. I did notice that the fuel injection light blinks but am not sure if that was always the case. I checked fuses and made sure there were no loose or disconnected wires and the issue continues. HELP!!!
Re-check your battery cable terminal bolts that they are clean and tight. Did you use a screwdriver to tighten them? Make sure you tighten them with a wrench and if this is your problem use some star type lock washers on the terminal bolts.
I had a similar situation and ended up being the battery terminal bolts were loose. I added the lock washers and they stay tight but I do check them several times a year and snug them down.
Have you done the ground fix and if so within the last several years? If the problem is not the battery terminals it could be the grounds. Another place to check is under the left side cover there is a 2 pin connector that can corrode and may need to be cleaned. This info is on Bareass choppers site. Wouldn't be the first NEW battery to be bad. Was it fully charged? Slowly? Do you keep it on a tender when not riding? I had 12 years out of mine before finally getting a new Yuasa last year, and learning a lesson by putting in a cheaper battery before that. BikeMaster. $90 wasted.
Same here. Replaced my 2007 battery last year. Thought I tightened up the bolt fine, but had some issues similar to yours. Went back in and wrenched them down more, and the problems went away (and have stayed away).
Good luck. AND,,,, nice ride!!
I played with the positive side of the battery. If I leave of the lead to the fuel prossesor the fuel pump runs but when I attach it , it does not . Does the prossesor need to be reset after it has been disconnected from power?
Wise to replace. I just replaced mine several days ago with the Yuasa OEM that was from 2011 when I bought my 2009 new. I always keep it on my battery tender, and have never had a problem. But I started to notice that the battery tender was taking longer to get the battery to 90%, and then even longer to get to full charge. So I had one delivered from DLP. I do try to keep as far as I can from Murphy's Law.
Had my battery for a full nine years. Figured that there was a sale on them then so I bought one. Easily could of gotten another year or more out of it. Took mine out every winter and kept it in the basement.
