Adjusting the Clutch on an 1800R

Searched first but did not find anything specific to adjusting this clutch.

I have almost 1800 miles my Retro and I have noticed the clutch seems to engage farther out than I would like. In other words, I do not hit the friction zone until I am almost all the way off the clutch - I would like it to engage sooner rather than later like it is doing now.

Is this a difficult adjustment?

The clutch is hydraulic, it uses a hydraulic cylinder similair to the brake cylinders. There,s a fluid line that runs from your handle bar control to the clutch push rod on the left side of the bike. Therefore there are no cables or adjustable linkage to allow adjustment,

nope no adjustment on it. And wih 1800 miles on it I don't think it would be worn out yet. did you check you fluid level? A freind just had a clutch put in (BY A STEELER) when he stoped on my left at a red light I could see his clutch fluid sight glass was empty. I asked him how's the new clutch working? He wasn't shure yet. So I pulled over and looked closer at his bike and shure enough it was way low from the dealer.

Agree with both of the above posts, no adjustment on hydraulic clutch.

Not quite true, Spike old chap... there are no EASY adjustments. You can do one of two things, tho....

Note that there is a small pin that sits in a bushing in the lever. You can shorten the pin or drill the hole a little deeper in the bushing. I took the bushing route as it appears cheaper to replace if I screwed up.

Well that kind of blows - no way to adjust the feel of the clutch? My fluid is full and it seems that the friction zone is too far out - guess I will have to get used to it. I would like it to start grabbing earlier than it does now.

Don't the Barnett Springs engage a bit sooner?

If you changed to braded lines wouldn't that help just a little since you wouldn't have line expansion like you do with the rubber ones??????
