Hey..first time post. Sorry it's about an issue. I've got a 2004 VTX 1300c. It has (had) 24,xxx miles on it. After a long ride the other day I was checking the mileage on the trip and went back to the odometer. For some reason it dropped 10,000. It now reads 14,xxx. What the happened?? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the VTXOA from the southeast corner of NC.

Make sure you are on ODO and not TRP 1 or TRP 2. In other words there is nothing going to remove 10K miles from your speedo except a new speedo.

Welcome to the forum from KY. Lots of info here. I doubt you can come up with a question that someone hasn't already experienced. And when I first got my bike, it took me a bit to get used to 2 trip meters. Use trip 1 for gas fill-ups, and trip 2 for gauging the entire trip.
Safe riding.

I was watching this thread for what would cause an Issue like this. (Ponce De Leon...rofl!)

Hadn't even thought about the tripometer!

Don't be offended by the good hearted ribbing. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Welcome from Central Texas. Enjoy the Ride, on VTXOA and on the road.

Quick follow up. I dis-connected the battery for a few hours thinking it may reset it to the correct mileage. That didn't help. Bike runs fine and not too concerned but later on down the road if I try to sell/trade it it's going to be hard to explain the difference in mileage.

You or the dealership can replace the odometer.
New or used are available....
A first to have the odometer reading change like that.
2004 1300C speedo :: SPEEDOMETER 37210-MEM-671 $190
2005 - 2009 37210-MEM-681 SPEEDOMETER A different supplier??? $185
Partzilla.com for reference

Just a quick question: after re-installing the battery, was the displayed mileage consistent with the mileage before the removal? Did the mileage change drastically in either direction after re-install?

Can you say with certainty that the original mileage was 24,xxx, or is there is chance that the 24K seen on the odo could have been misread and was really 14K?

Only asking if it seems an even 10,000 miles is missing, and not 8,574 or some other odd number.

Hey...nothing changed when I re-installed the battery. Remained at 14,xxx. I left it dis-connected for over 24 hours.

I am certain it was 24,xxx. I traded for it late last summer with 20,xxx. That's what was on the ODO and that's what is on the title - 100% sure it was at 24,xxx. It pretty much just dropped from 24,xxx to 14,xxx.

Also,,, I do appreciate everyone help. I guess my next move is to get another speedo and see what happens.

I once had a new snowmachine do something similar. I had put a couple thousand miles on it. Next thing I know, it's showing 600 miles in the digital odometer. Plugged it into the service computer at the dealer and it showed 600 miles as well, even though there are service records showing otherwise. Never did figure it out, and didn't really care. I know that doesn't help fix it. Just saying that sometimes there are unexplained ghosts in the machine.
