clutch cable

My last clutch cable lasted me about two years, but I have now purchased the last clutch cable in stock here. My question to others is, how long (miles/time) are others getting out of their cables?

115000 still on second cable

Make sure it is aligned for straight pull on the case adjuster

I've had them break while out a long way from home and yes I cleaned and lubed them regularly. I vowed never to have that happen again so for the $15-25 they cost I now change the cable every 2 years as a preventative maintenance item.

Please gentlemen, how often are you lubricating ? What are you using? as I am not getting anywhere near that. Clutch cables are approx. $55- $60 here so don't want to buy another one soon.

I use cable lube about once a year. PJ1 or Cable Life. MAKE sure the cable in not rubbing on the guide screw (adjustment screw) near the pivot arm on the crankcase. (I found this good advice from Hans.)Make sure the exposed cable is not rubbing on anything. About 50,000 miles I changed mine and keep the old one for a road spare.

Its probably rubbing on the lower adjuster, Use a pair of channellocks to bend the bracket until you get a straight pull

I would check which end broke and closely inspect that area for metal on metal rubbing. I use tri-flow lubricant and still running the one that I purchase it the bike with about 3 years commute traffic... very happy... lube only if I get cought in heavy rain...
