Does the VTX only start in neutral?

Only my second post...I have a 2007 VTX1300 and the only way I can get it to start is in neutral. That's OK when I'm just starting but I'm still getting used to the clutch and have stalled it several times during an intersection. I'm surprised I can't just hold the clutch and fire the starter and it crank!

Is this normal? or is there something wrong like a relay or something?

Thanks,
Jason

Switch on clutch perch needs cleaned or replaced.
Some aftermarket levers need a little trimming of the bump that activates the switch.

Kick stand switch Green/White wire to headlight bucket to 6 pin Blue Connector block
to Black wire to clutch switch(CS)Black wire to 6 pin Blue connectorblock to Green/Red wire to Starter relay.

Pull off wires at clutch switch, short the wires together and with kickstand up the engine should crank(IGN switch ON and Starter switch operated).

My clutch switch wires have vibrated out a couple of times.
When it acts up I push them back in....
Kickstand down = 'no' start (except neutral).
Kickstand up & in gear, clutch pulled in = start

This sounds to me like the sort of troubleshooting and repair that ought to be performed ASAP. No reason to put yourself at risk of being run over by some jackleg just because you stall the engine.

And welcome to the board. Let us know how your repairs work out.
