Hello everyone. In December of last year, I traveled from Gulfport Mississippi to Stillwater Oklahoma kinda by accident. You know the hurricane hit here pretty hard, and we had worked very hard trying to recover from it. Well, I had seen enough so I took a few days off work to try to forget all I had seen. I was out tinkering with my bike when my wife asked if I was going for a ride. Seemed like a good idea, so I hit the road......and stopped in Stillwater Oklahoma. (All is good, called the wife halfway there).
That long story is my introduction to long distance riding. Guess I got hooked. This Wednesday, I am leaving Gulfport Mississippi, heading to Greensboro NC, back to Birmingham AL, over to Jackson MS, then back to Gulfport. I am going to try to run this route to get my 1500 miles in 24 hours in preparation for a BBG later. Figured if I had to do 1500 miles for a bun burner, might as well use it as a test practice for a BBG.
Wish me luck. I will do the post to tell you how I made out. Not too worried about it though, I have 36 hours to make it in. Besides, I stayed at my house here and experienced 135 mph winds for roughly 16 hours during Katrina, how hard can this be.

Good luck BANDIT01!

Will be looking for your after-trip post with your experiences (good and bad) for ideas to help with my future IBA rides.

RIDE SAFE and have fun!

best of luck to you in your ride. I still yet have to do mine, because the weather gods unleashed their furry the very weekend I had mine planned. It was months of planning, and hours of maps, all for not, I guess I am still pissed, so I have not replanned the event yet. Keep us posted 8)

Thanks for all the tips, advice, and encouragement from all of you. I leave tommorrow night after all this bad weather goes through. I have packed as carefully as I can (very lightly), and prepared for everything from tornadoes to dust storms. My MP3 player and Garmin GPS V have both been programmed up and new batteries installed, my energy bars and Camel-Bak filled to the brim with Gatorade. The UnderArmor is ready, My new Wiley-X glasses and Wiley-X goggles with replaceable tinted and clear lenses are cleaned. The bike has a fresh oil change with semi-synthetic and a new set of Dunlops. Guess I am ready as I ever will be. Wish me luck.

Thanks to all of you on this site that give me tips and advice, I made it. Had to do5 hours of it a friggin monsoon weather from the time I entered South Carolina, all the time I was in North Carolina, and back until I got just about out of South Carolina again. Some of the heaviest rain I have ever driven through. I plowed through the stuff anyway and slugged my way along. Made the trip with only a few minutes to go! Y es, I made it in 24 hours like I wanted to, even though it wasnt a BBG. Now I have a fully tested route to do for my BBG.
Have to finish recovering from that run, then I will give all the details. Les.
