Before you tell me that I shouldn't be taking calls please know that I have read the pros and cons. Also know that I understand some of you ride to get away from "the world". Sometimes I ride to get to "the world". Sometimes I need to take calls from wife or others whlie I am on the bike.
I don't plan on making any calls and keeping my incomings short. For example, can't talk right now. Or will call you back. But if it an emergency, I need to be able to know that while I am riding as opposed to pulling over every time the phone rings (especially on group rides).
Anyhow, which cellphones have the best autoanswer features that will work with Autocom?
And if you still want to post about it being distracting I would tell you that MP3's, GPS's, Stereos, CB's etc are more distracting as my cell phone would only be incoming and completely hands free unlike the items I just listed.

I appreciate the disclaimers, but I'm not personally afraid of incurring the wrath of anybody -- or at least will be courteous enough to simply try to post something that is a help rather than a hindrance.
In any event, I too have an Autocom and am here to tell you that I wouldn't think there is any "better," or "best," auto-answer features. I happen to own a Sanyo SCP-5300 -- not even a newer cutting edge telephone -- and like (I'd imagine) the majority of phones out there it has "an" auto-answer feature and works perfectly. You don't need any extraneous bells and whistles besides that single capability (and of course the connecting cord that comes with all Autocom units to interface between it and your phone). It helps that your telephone has a 2.5mm jack but there's even work-arounds for that. Of course you won't be making any calls FROM the cell phone (or more accurately, at least while riding), so you just have to ensure your phone can automatically pick-up or answer after 2 or 4 rings (or whatever it is capable of being set at). Autocom will do the rest. Cell-phones and Autocom are not an issue.
Sanyo SCP-5300: Just one of a a hundred or two cell phones that will work fine
(remember, receiving phone calls are OK, but er, NO phone-picture-taking while riding solo please..).

Thanks for posting this.
This is exactly what I am looking for. Have a blackberry for work and wife has an NEC but neither do autoanswer. Both include some physical action whether pulling out of holster or opening in order to answer.
I will look for one of these on ebay or craigslist and won't take pictures with it!
Thanks again!

Well you're certainly welcome, but you really shouldn't feel tied down to just that brand or model. Have fun no matter your selection and with your Autocom -- the communications and music totally enhance the ride experience!

I have a Motorola v262 with auto answer. The auto answer function can be turned on and off. Once I left the hands free plugged in and the ringer on vibe. A call came in and the phone answered. The caller heard and listen to about 15 minutes of my wife and mine conversations before she hung up. Quite embarrassing I might add.
I also have a Kyocera phone that has the auto answer function. When a call comes in, the phone says: "you have an incoming call. Answer?"
You just say yes if you do, or "no" or don't say anything if you don't.
They both work quit well with my Starcom intercom system.

An interesting time for this post as I just purchased the cables and connectors to allow my cell phone to work with my Chatterbox. Finding the 2.5 mm (3/32") stereo plugs was a challenge, even for Radio Shack. But I tested it last night (off the bike) and it seems to work great.
My phone (Samsung) has voice dialing and auto answer. Since I am frequently on the bike for 2+ hours straight between Tennessee and Atlanta, I wanted the capability to receive calls from my wife. Since no one else has my number, this should limit "unwanted" traffic.
Personally, I don't see the difference between listening to my XM, talking on the phone or just talking to myself while on the bike.
However, reading a book or newspaper while on the bike is still difficult!

Yeah -- people are living in hovels and abject poverty in 3rd-world countries but WE get to surf the 'net while riding motorcycles. Small wonder why everybody wants to come here!
I have the Motorola Razr V3c and Scala Rider headset. Works great. Easy talking at highway speeds, no wind noise.

I never thought I would use all the inputs on the Chatterbox (one for audia and one for a cell phone). Now I am wondering how to "tie in" a GPS with voice controls when I get it.
Sheesh! Too much technology! Maybe I'll just get a loaded Gold Wing!

I now have an Autocom which accepts a number of peripherals (I hook up a cell phone, XM radio, GPS and even have a bike-to-bike FRS radio setup -- it all works). But with my Roady2 XM radio I still like to use an amplifier to really boost the signal. The one I have is the Mix-It2, and as the name suggests, it is also a "mixer" (albeit rudimentary). You can have 4 inputs (2 stereo and 2 mono and one of those monos is "priority" meaning if a signal reaches it it mutes anything else automatically...sweet). Although there's now others on the market you might want to consider this or one of those for your setup -- there's ya a work-around for you to hear your GPS or a few other items through your Chatterbox!

I know that there are some voice activated cell phones out there if you say a magic word. The only question is would the magic word be recognized by Autocom meaning would it go to FRS radio or go to cell phone or both or maybe I need two, PTT buttons. Not sure, trying to figure this one out.

Scarecrow,
I like your idea of getting yourself a loaded up Goldwing a lot better. I have one of each and I love them both. The VTX is a great city bike and fun on shorter poker runs and such. On anything much over an hour or two away, I'll take the Wing. For longer rides, you just can't beat the Goldwing. :D

Gary,
Actually I do have a wing.........................a 1977 GL-1000. Recently I took it back to ATL and left my VTX in Tennessee in preparation for some summer riding there. The ole wing rode just as good as the X on the 5 hour trip. The only down side was poor mileage due to a misfiring cylinder. But otherwise, it was a very comfortable ride.
