Seriously...... How long does it really take to plan a ride like this one ?

I planned and led a ride last year. If you are starting from scratch it takes a long time. You need to include..

1) well timed comfort/gas stops
2) food stop
3) scenery
4) curves

Just nailing down the food thing can be a chore depending on how many you expect to have along. Many places don't want to commit to groups larger than 10 because if it rains bikers tend to stay home.

Selecting a route the provides decent riding entertainment can be a challenge as well. It helps if you are familiar with the roads to start with. You definitely need to be familiar with them by the ride date. Ride leaders that frequently pull u-turns because they don't know where they are going are unsafe.

I am guessing that Pont had about 20 hours of ride planning the first time for the RIMBY ride...prior to listing it. After he listed and got an overwhelming response (he was looking to get 10-15 riders instead of the 100 or so that attended) I am willing to bet he had another 20+ hours in it....just stuff like breaking the large group into smaller groups (think tables at a wedding, who will be sitting with who?), ride leaders, sweeps, etc.

Try that Quahog Cruise from NER. Most of that is the route I planned from last year. Ellies is a nice little eatery. Ask Manny...he was there for the food.

May 13th.

The chowdah and clam fritters are pretty good.

And Hondo is right... the chowder and fritters is PLENTY! LOL!

That's a good ride (Quahog).

RIMBY is quite a ride from what I have heard, that's a lot of bikes and a lot of logistics. I missed it again this year :-(

I liked their corn bread. They made it with maple syrup. It was definitely a different taste. 8)
