I just got an insurance quote from Progressive, $700 for 1 years coverage, a little sticker shock for me   I was paying $470 in Carolina. Does this sound right? I have a good record , no tickets or at fault accidents. Any other companies out there I should contact or is this just the going price? Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Rich.

I'm paying $570 a year with Progressive and I have a at fault total loss accident on my record.

What's your zip code? What coverage did you get quoted for?

I've got whatever the minimum to satisfy the bank was.

Rich,
Try GEICO. I get a little better rate from them than I was quoted from Progressive. And yes, Florida rates are high compared to many other states. I remember when I moved here in 1985 from Michigan and owned a 1984 Camaro Z-28 H.O. (high output-meaning highest horsepower) and my insurance went from $1000 a year to $2000. THAT was a shock because I was already paying way over due to tickets (read H.O.-high out put horsepower. When you got it, you tend to flaunt it.)

Heh,heh, heh, I fit the "old", but not the married category, although 5 years living together says we might as well be. Main thing here though is that it is virtually impossible to compare one person's rate to anothers due to all the factors involved. Not only does your driving record affect it (tickets or accidents), or your age, or your credit rating or your specific coverage and amounts of coverage or the exact location you live or the size of the bike or the age of the bike or the mods on the bike (I have extra coverage for those) or the insurance company you use or.............. Anyone beginning to get my point?
That said, $700 seems a tad high for a 1300 living in Riverview.
Although, if you have 3 dui's on your record that would be cheap.

I hear ya's! Thanks for the feed back. The thing that gripes me the most is I'm old and married, probably older that chefbob. I have no tickets, I've got excellent credit and live in Homosassa (the country). Go figure, maybe they don't like me   I told them to hold on because I was gona go shopping, then I got the hard sell, they where the best and expensive I might add. Maybe I need to check what they charging me for.

I switched this year to GEICO. They gave me a lower price than Progressive. $540 for the year, but half that amount was for uninsured motorist insurance..............Here in Florida there are a lot of people driving without insurance, and I wanted to be protected in case a non insured cager wipes me out.

You need to at least get a quote from some of the other companies. They may or may not save you some money, but doesn't cost anything to ask. I would agree that Homosassa should not be as expensive as where some of the rest of us live, but I don't think any of us are experts on insurance (I wish I could remember the name of all those tables they use)calculations. Good luck and hope you find a better deal.

I paid $245 through Progressive for liab, comp and collision. I will probably add uninsured motorist after reading some of these posts. When I bought my VTX last summer the lady at Haps Honda said she was getting great rates at the time from Progressive.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I may be able to keep my
No. Carolina insurance untill it runs out (Sept) but I need to do some shopping now. I will give Kyle a call and see if we can get something going.
I honestly don't know how I didn't hit anything while in Leesburg just lucky, THANKS.

Jimysan - what do you mean? that I should add it?

Jimysan
05-10-2006, 07:33 PM
Cuz, now don't quote me, but in Florida if you have uninsured coverage on your car, you are NOT covered on your bike.

You MAY be covered on your bike if the coverage on your car is STACKED.

Yes, you should add it to your bike policy.
Read on a bit and you will see that on 4-23 I was at a stoplight and got rear-ended by a drunk 24 year old woman/girl/bitch.

She had insurance alright, yeah, Property damage (covers my bike), PIP / personal injury protection (to cover her sorry ass) and , ... and. . . and. . . that's it. No Liability for me or anyone else whom she may maim or decapitate next time she drives drunk.

SO, since I did NOT have UM on my bike policy, I may be out of luck. I have Medpay (pays my med bills) and property damage and liabilty.

So guess what we added to our bike policy last week.
Went to $1100 a year for 2 bikes, but now I've got MY ass covered for the future.

I met a guy in Leesburg at the bikefest who carries 100K/300K uninsured motorist on his bikes. Now that's a lot, but I can't afford that much.

Now you know.

Jimysan... you're right, it's insuring the "other" guy that costs so damn much. I have Geico, (I don't trust Progressive fer sh*t, personal thing) and approx. half my $635 a year goes to UM coverage. Same crap with Homeowner's with the surcharge we have to pay for other guys to have insurance through Citizens.... insurance is a racket plain and simple, it's legalized robbery in my opinion... but try living without it.

Jimysan,

Was your drunk from FL? My bet is NC.

In FL she must carry BI (liability for the other guy) if she purchased a FL policy.

I believe in NC (and possibly one or two other states), you can reject liability coverage!!

Great for her premium but sucks for the guy she hit...

I agree: UM is what is driving high premiums for m/c's. But think about it; are you more likely to be hurt in an accident while driving your bike or your truck?

Lance

PS: As a retired military guy I have medical no matter what so I reject UM. I also am aware that this stops me from recovering pain and suffering, lost wages, etc from the UM coverage if the at-fault driver has no insurance...

I have state farm and having Liability$25k/50k, property$50k with $500 deductable on collision /comp; unisured/bodily at $25k/50k. That last item ininsured is important for $93 a year, idiots on the road that have no isurance. If i drop that, it would be $388. But, I can miss $186 for a piece of mind, so it's $574 a year. I went higher on the options, if u accidently hit a lexus or corvette, good to be better covered.

Lance, she actually was from Holland. But she had a FL license. As to your statement, I don't think it's required, but optional. I'd be surprised to learn it was required.
