I was installing new V&H Big Shots. When I intially tried to remove the flange nuts the bolts came with them. When installing the new pipes, I managed to cross-thread one of the bolts on the rear exhaust port - about a quarter of the way in.

My question is: Has this happened to anyone else and if so, can you let me know specifically what tools I'll need and where to get them to re-tap the hole? I guess it's probably a good idea to get new flange bolts/nuts too.

Any advice will be greatly apreciated.

Big W, you need to find an 8mm threaded tap but you need to identify for sure what pitch you need I believe it's a 1.25 pitch but bring a stud to the hardware store and measure it up then buy a T handle and tap for that thread. and run it in the X thread hole a few times

I used Stainless Steel allen heads bolts to hold my pipe flanges to the cylinders.. about 1/2 long allen bolts screw the studs and the acorn nuts they suck

Thanks for the helpful info Rog.

These are 8mm stainless allen head bolts - and 1/2 inch long?

Since I pass thru Manchester daily - do you know of a good place where I can pick up the tools and hardware?

Thanks,
Big W

Thanks again Roger.

Are you planning another Northeast ride? My son and I had a great time last year. If so, I hope to see you then.

Make sure you take it easy with the boogered up threads and tap.. go slow and straight!! I would use some mystery oil on the tap as well

GO SLOW

If it don't feel right stop..
