We've completed the design work and there's super news! The cost per unit (if we cut 10) will be $85 plus shipping. That's means you can have a first class removeable aux fuel system for around $400.

###

Are you interested in constructing aux fuel cell that should meet the IBA safety certification?

I'm in the process of having another order of mounting brackets fabricated and would love to find others to help offset my design and waterjet programming costs.

The bracket, fabricated from 3003 aluminum, works like this. It is specifically cut to fit the Summit Racing 5 gallon aluminum fuel cell. These are available in natural or powder coated in red, black, or blue http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D291205&N=400304+115&autoview=sku.

The bracket will fit over the passenger pillion of the stock seat and is secured to the fender rails. You can use small chrome spacers to keep the bracket from scaring your fender rails and the bracket should work great with most saddle bag mounts.

My design for the bracket allows for removal of the aux fuel cell when it's not in use. Electric rotary fuel pump is attachable to the bracket. Fuel feed will be to a T-fitting in the main tank return line. A quick release fuel coupler with dual check-valves on the line from the aux fuel tank to the main tank allows for easy removal.

Now, here's where you can help! At this point I'm working only on the 1800C model. Do the fender rails on the other 1800 models have the same dimension? What about 1300 fender rails? Are after market passenger pillions about the same size as the stock? Specifically, does anyone have a pillion that greater than 12 inches wide?

Let me know by PM or post here if you're interested. I'm trying to get time on the waterjet early next week.

Hey Jim,

From the 1300 S measurements: from the last bolt ->forward:

6 3/4" and 4 3/4 to the next (center to center) The pillon is 11.5 inches wide (rear).

Hope it helps 8)

Thanks, Ironmorph!

I met with the machinist again today and we're going to have to create a seperate waterjet program for each model.

The cost of the programming is about $75 (probably less after we get the 1800C done). The cutting and molding in 3003 aluminum is about $75.

Our plan is to bring a local model of each bike to the shop so we can make sure everything is perfect. We'll make measurements and program, cut a prototype in cheap metal to check for fit, and then make adjustments and cut the 3003.

Let me know,

Jim

I have my tank running and I love it. I know you can sell them on this forum and maybe through Hal's place as well. I don't want to take my tank off I love it so much.

Feel free to send me any component, I will be glad to bolt it on and try it anyhow you like. and I can send it back after taking pics for you. I take my bike apart all the time and try prototypes of all kinds of stuff.

I am always building something for it, for just the fun of doing it myself. It's not perfect, but it solid and functional. I am not too hung up on looks, it needs to work very well. I guess I'm a pragmatist. I like stuff that lasts and lasts, and has great value, and best of all, made here in the States. 8)

take care

Paul, I don't.

I've removed that tank rack and am in the process of fabricating a new rack to support the 5 gallon Summit fuel cell and hard luggage (side bags and trunk).

Sounds like a great system... Good luck with it!

Of course I've got some bungee cords you could borrow if you'd like :D
