Hey guys, just wanted to say hi.

I grew up in Meridian, and went to MS State. Left MS in '82, because there were no significant engineering jobs. It's always interesting each time I go back to visit family.

2 weeks ago, I rode the X to Meridian, and was around for a few days. It was very strange, since Meridian hasn't had a Honda dealer for many years. I think the nearest one is in either Laurel or Hattisburg. All that's there is Chunky River Harley, it's a nice place. I rode up, and several of the sheep came over to look at the X. They had never seen one before, and of course I got a couple of the nasty comments. One guy even challenged me, and asked me "What are you doing here..." as if I wasn't allowed in a Harley parking lot. Kinda sad, and indicative of the isolated lives some folks still live in MS.

Glad to know there are guys like you around who live outside the box. Not very many, but I guess you guys are just gonna have to work on your friends a bit. :D

I hope to make it over to the HOG rally in Sturgis some day, and visit the MS State campus for a bit. It would be another good trip on the X. It would be good to see some of ya'll around sometime.

Best wishes,
Mark

:D :D :D

I have made it to Little Sturgis for the past 3 years and it is getting bigger and bigger each time. That little town is NOTHING and gets slammed with bikes. It is way crowded and we have to stay in Starkville, but we have had a great time. The ride up on the Natchez Trace is the best part!

Hey Mark,
I used to ride dirt bikes in Meridian when there was a club over there. I believe that Meridian has had a Honda dealership for many years. It used to be next to a car dealership, but then they moved somewhere else a couple years ago. I stopped in on my way to Atlanta to get something for my bike and they had moved. There was a sign, but I didn't feel like looking for them.
Let me know next time you are riding this way and we can hook up and ride.

Not sure where you rode, but we used to ride in the 'sand pit' about 5 miles south of town on HWY 39, past the Bonita lakes, back in the '70s. Big motocross training area, and lots of trails. There would be 100 bikes there on the weekends. Also, there was a competition motocross track north of town, toward the Navy Base.

The Honda dealership used to be behind the old Cadillac dealership in the '70s and 80's. It closed up years ago, in the early '90s. My dad had a TRX300, and had to take it to Laurel for service. Maybe there's a newer one now. Funny thing...with the nice new Chunky River Harley store....the original Harley dealership used to be on B Street, just around the corner from the Honda dealership, a sleezy section of town, in an old small brick building....with one of those small swinging tin signs out front...lol. They never had more than 3 or 4 bikes for sale.

This was back in the '60s and '70s when bikers were still considered outlaws, sub-life forms, troublemakers...etc. ROFL...I always felt like I was headed off to do something illegal when I went into that section of town to visit the Honda dealer. :D

Well don't back down tell them you just tired of beating the rice rockets and was just looking for for a real challeng, there being non there, you would be leaving and pull off. I've done that and it works. Oh don't worry about them coming. you ever see a old hd try to start when they are in a hurry Ha-Ha-Ha

Mark; There is a Honda place in Merdian. It is on Hwy 19 just north of I-20. Remodeled building where West Builders Supply used to be.
