View Full Version : What is the best intercom system to get (Update bought today
I am interested in getting an intercom system for my bike so that I can talk back and forth with the passenger. I do not care about cb radio capability, etc. I just want something that will enable me to talk without hearing a lot of static. Which system is best?

we had a NADY system. They are not great. You can get them for less than 100 bucks. We got a autocom system (400 bucks). We are very happy with it. You can play music and connect a cell phone. Works well. You can check out & order at autocomus.com. Instructions stress the importance of mic. position and it takes a little pratice and proper set up. You have to have a open or full face helment and there are different headsets for each. Hope this is helpful. GA.

I just bought the J&M Inovator IV and love it. It has a built in FM and you can use the Satelite, Cell Phone, Intercom, GPS, MP3 and just about any other gadget. It all hooks into that one componant. You have to have the head sets but I got mine for a total $579.00, free S/H no tax from Sierra Electonics. I've had rumble road speakers for 3 years but they never preformed the way i thought they should and had to be hard wired to the bike. This set up doesn't. Go to http://sierraelectonics.com and check it out.
This looks interesting because it uses BlueTooth wireless connection to the helmet.

I have used all the systems... Starcom, chatterbox,... the whole deal and hands down the best bay far is Autocom. This system will not be cheap by any means but they work FLAWLESSLY!!!

I had the chatterbox and did not like it.
I have the autocom now and while it is expensive, it is well worth the price. Well, I got it on sale in December so it was a great deal.
Just be careful as some helmets are not communication equipment friendly.
I have a schuberth helmet and it needed help with the speakers. I also had the Shoei X11 and it did not like speakers either.
so check things out before you spend the $$$$$$
Good Luck.

Autocom is about as premier a communication device as you can possibly get. You NEVER see anything bad written about them. Totally solid in all respects. People have been using their original models for years. I purchased the Active 7 model in December and the sound is crystal clear. You can connect to a passenger, another biker via FRS radios, GPS, music source (satellite radio, MP3, etc.) cell phone - simultaneously! (BTW, I also had a Chatterbox -- sorry, but in comparison it was merely a toy.) Save your ducats and get THIS!
I have been reading about each one described above and have about decided to go ahead and invest in the Autocom system as it has fewer bad reviews than some of the others. It is kind of like every thing else I have put on th bike, it ends up costing four times more than I thought but I am proud of every singel accessory so far. Uusally you get what you pay for.
Now, I will need to decided which model I want. I want the best system for intercom and probably will eventually hook into something like a Sony Walkman for FM music. So I gotta decide on which of their three models would be the most cost effective and functional. I don't care for bike to bike communications as I rarely ride with others.
Well, today (Monday May 22nd) I sprung for the Auto Com Easi Plus Kit @ $189.95 and extra mic. and speakers @ $69.95 from Autocom USA website. Right now I just want to operate rider to passenger intercom hook up with the internal 9v battery portable for a while. Later, I will wire it in to the bike, and get a good FM radio to hook it into. The main thing now is passenger communications. I think I am going to like this set up. Thanks to all for their input. This is a great resource. If anyone has any good hints, etc. about helmet hookup for the mic. and speakers, please post. I did have an intercom system in my old 89 Yahmaha Royal Venture and I remember the speakers and mic. being sort of a hasstle and a little uncomfortable so I guess I am going to be back to that again. I think I will purchase two new matching helmets as mine are black and get pretty hot----plus, my wife's helmet has always been a bit large for her and she needs a new one. I am considering white or silver, and if anyone has any brand preference that allows easy speaker installation, please post, Thanks,
Van
