Hey all... wondered if anyone has any recommendations for music and communication with half helmets.

Right now I just have an mp3 player with ear buds... They work great over the pipes but not as good for wind over 60 mph. At full volume I can barely hear the music. Any suggestions? I have seen the Shure E3C's, but don't want to drop the $100 if they're no better than what I have. (sound isolating).

Also, what about mic's with half helmets?

Thanks!
~Sean

Have you seen this. I saw it in a recent post about 2 weeks ago. If you call IN-NETWORK the call is usually free

Pretty slick... no, I hadn't seen that... man... if there were bluetooth direct communictions, that would be perfect!

Anything that is independant from the helmet? (doesn't require a helmet to hold in place etc)

I have the Motocomm MC-751 for my flip-face helmet for my CB and MP3 connection. I have just ordered another MC-751 and my plan is to adapt it to an old set of banded headphones to make a set for use with my half helmet.

Of course this may sound like a half wit idea....but I will let you know how it turns out when I get it built and I will post a pic of my contraption.

Here is where I got it - http://www.radiogadgets.com/motorcycle-headset.html

I've got that system too from my full face, but haven't got to use it yet, (just got it monday). I was going to sugest that to him too, but knew they didn't have it for half helmet. how did you route the wires, on your bike, to the ptt switch. I've been trying to come up with a good way to do it, and I think the best way I can come up with is to remove the tank and route it on the frame. got any better ideas?

I routed the wires under the gas tank, zip tied to the other wires along the backbone. I wedge the cable between the gas tank and seat when in use. Then I tuck the CB & MP3 connection behind the left side cover when not in use.

This looks good, but doesn't appear to have a music input. Most MP3 have a 3.5mm output. This says it has a 2.5mm for cell phone. Not sure if there is an adapter available???

It doesn't appear to interface with the Motocomm setup, but looks good if you are just wanting CB or Cell phone headset.

yeah, that is what I was going to do. where do you have the cb mounted. I bought some two-way radios to use with it. I'm probably just going to clip it to my belt or pocket, but was toying with the idea of velcroing it to the tank. I'm just not sure if I want to have a piece of velcro on my tank all the time.

I got the eCaddy Lite to mount CB and MP3 on the handlebars. A little price at $60, but at least it is chrome... :D

Have you considered getting a dedicated motorcycle/music amplifier/mixer? I purchased the Mix-It2 from www.mixitproducts.com (http://www.mixitproducts.com) and it really gives your music a nice 25db boost. I use both Sony behind-the-neck phones with a shorty helmet and every now and again simple earplug phones (in a full-face). The beauty of this amp/mixer is that you can also hook up a telephone, GPS or radar, or even a second stereo device. Note that one of the mono's is "priority" meaning it will mute any other device receiving sound/input -- which is good for a GPS, cell phone or radar unit). It's not cheap though...(about $179). BTW, I also use it in conjunction with an Autocom Active-7 communicator or as a stand-alone when I don't need to talk to somebody (passenger or other biker with an FRS radio).

Well the mod of banded headphones didn't turn out quite as good as I would like...too much duct tape...too redneck...

So I went a different route for my MP3 & CB headphones and microphone using the MC-751.

http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/4239PICT1024-med.JPG

I stiched some black material across the triagular helmet strap on both sides, then using the peel and stick velcro supplied with the MC-751, just stuck the earphones to the material as indicated by the red circle.

The microphone indicted in blue is velcro(ed) to the outside of the helmet. Earphones are indicated in red. And the connection cord is indicated in aqua. I used a couple of black zip ties to secure the connection cord to the helmet strap on the left side of the helmet.

I've not done a long trip with this setup just yet, but I did take a quick trip down to the corner hardware store and it seemed to work just fine.
