I'm looking for suggestions and examples of how others have mounted an No-Ground-Plane CB antenna on their VTX.

Here is my delimma.... I have a Corbin Dual Touring seat with chrome rail, Beetle Bags, and lay down license tag. I also have mounted running lights/turn signals to my license tag, so I can't see mounting to the tag as an option.

I have thought of either fastening some type of mount to the seat bolt, or else some type of chrome clamp mount to the seat rail.

I have ordered a 3' Firestik NGP antenna. http://www.radiogadgets.com/noground.html
To go with the Midland 75-822 CB http://www.radiogadgets.com/75822.html

Here is what I am trying to work with....

I wish I had a solution for you, but I'm actually looking for the same answer!

So... I guess I'll be watching this thread for help too!

Go to your local truck stop and there should be a clamp something that looks it would clamp to a mirror on a trunk. What you would do is that it hastwo bolts that you would tighten up to a rail. I know not much of an answer but take a look at the truck stop :)

Yep - been there, done that. I couldn't find anything acceptable for the X. The Corbin seat rail is a smaller diameter than most mirror brackets. I have found some chrome and aluminum clamp mounts online that might work, but wanted to see if anyone has come up with something better yet.

Thanks!

Not sure if this would work. I see that RetroBlues has the lay-down license plate not sure about you BobMador. You might consider modifying this mount (it's made for a full size license plate).

Had an idea while writing this....what if you were to reverse the mounting (use the tab off the bottom of the plate)???

Sorry fellows, this is the best I've found so far. I'm looking for a mount also. I'm not in a big hurry yet because I'm not going to do this until I get hard bags on the bike (seems like every time I get close something else comes up).

If either of you find anything better please post it on the board...I'd be interested in seeing it.

I have the layed down curved bracket on my retro and used a twisted strap mount that I ordered thru www.sierra-MC.com (http://www.sierra-MC.com) that I mounted between the upper and lower base of the license plate bracket. I had to drill another hole in the strap and shorten it some. It seems to work well and looks decent.

Can you post a pic so I can get a visual?

Is this the mount you used?

Just make sure your antenna is ground good or your swr will be off.

Well that may be true for a regular truck or car type of CB antenna, but with an NGP "No Ground Plane" there is specifically NO grounding of the antenna base. The antenna is "mated" to the specially tuned coax cable included. Such as is the case with the Firestik NGP, the cable is 17 ft and must NOT be cut to a shorter length. This antenna is specifically made for applications such as motorcycle, boats, or RV's where making a good ground can prove to be somewhat difficult.

As for my initial mount question, I have ended up fabricating something myself from a piece of 1 1/2" aluminum strap that I have clamped to my Corbin seat rail. Pictures to follow after I finish some fine tuning tonight.

Yes, that is the mount. I will try to post a picture, but it may not be until this weekend. If you would give me your e-mail address I could probably send a pic to you sooner.

Here is the mount I ended up fabricating from 1 1/2" aluminum strap and stainless steel nuts and bolts from Home Depot. Just got it mounted tonight, but have not had a chance to road test it yet.

I modified a Ram Mount to mount my no ground plane CB antenna on the bike. Works well and it can be taken off when not needed or laid down when I put the bike cover on.
