Hello,

I picked up an Autocom system prior to my IronButt ride. I can't seem to get the speakers properly situated in my helmet. It either crushes me ears or they are too far away to hear. I have a KBC Flip faced helmet (http://www.kbc-helmet.com/kbcbbs/zboard.php?id=street&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=19&PHPSESSID=d9ebd2f163757403705bbbfe7a439236)

I'm wondering if it's because it's a flip face helmet and maybe there is much more *stuff* at the hinge point or something like that.

The helmet fits great without the speakers installed and I ended up pulling them out halfway through my ironbutt ride.

What helmets to you guys have your Autocom speakers installed in?

Thanks,

Berserker

My Autocom speakers are installed in an HJC full-faced street helmet. I don't know the exact model number of the helmet (I'm at work too so it's not here for me to check). But my helmet comes (and probably all of HJC's as well come) with removable earpieces to allow easier access for installation of in-helmet speakers. The built-in ear recess inside the helmet leaves plenty of room to insert Autocom's thinnish speakers so that they never touch my ears at all (although I imagine they are close). It would be akin to an ear-cup type full blown stereo headphone where your entire ear fits inside the recess but is otherwise not resting on the speaker itself.

I looked at the website your link pointed to an am surprised that your helmet does not have this built-in recess as well. I thought they were generally standard. In any event, you've already purchased one of the most premier communicators around. Don't let this get to you. There is ALWAYS a fix and it will come to you or someone will provide better help than I have here. One minor thing is wrong; otherwise some tens of thousands (at least) of Autocom customers can't be wrong...

Geez I wrote a lot to say virtually nothing, huh? ;-)

I have the Nolan Classic Helmets (3/4 helmet with flip up visor) and I installed the speakers and cut the foam on the left side and right side of the speaker and then tucked it up under to top part of the cutaway rather than just cutting the left, right and top and taking it out altogether. That way if I ever decide to put it back and I can with a little double sided tape. That way I eliminated about an 1/8" of foam which kept it from being so tight.

Depends whihc helemt you are using. HJC, Arai, etc are speaker friendly. Shoei, Schubert, etc are not speaker friendly.

You need to figure out which you have. If you have a non speaker friendly helemt, then either you need to fix it yourself or have it done professioanlly.

Good Luck
