Columbia to Ashville and back

I'm going to be travelling from Columbia, SC to Ashville, NC at the end of June. Anyone know of a good route besides the interstate to get there? Nothing too out of the way...I have to be in Ashville for work by 11:30am.

Hwy 176 goes all the way from Columbia to Asheville, through all the little towns. Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to take I-26? It'll take you twice as long using Hwy 176.

I probably will take I-26. If it didn't take that much longer, I much prefer the back roads to interstate. Since I have to be in Asheville by 11:30, I don't have the luxury of time, so interstate it is.
