View Full Version : Corbin or Ultimate Seat
Have a new (2005) 1800F and not many seat choices. Either a Corbin Solo or send my seat pan to Ultimate fora Mid. Any suggestions 6' and 220 lbs.
Thanks

Youll get guys that like both, But on this site one seat seams to dominate all others.... Ultimate, big boy if your a big guy. I can 700 mile in a day on mine with no problem at all. best mod on my bike.

I'll second what he said. But get the back rest, it's a wonderful addition.

but he has an F and they don't make the big boy for it yet. i personally have the corbin duel tour and love it. i seems to move me forward alittle but it's ok with me. really cups your a$$ well. i'm 6' 270lbs. i got mine direct from corbin for just under $500 w/ saddle cream and shipping. hopefully you can check them both out first.

Hey, Jimbo
I got my Ultimate Lowrider on yesterday. Rode with my wife for 300 miles.
In addition to the Wishmaster risers, perhaps the best addition to the bike. Didn't even think about my ass or lower back.
Big fan of the Ultimate.

i guess corbin raised all their prices, so the ultimate is a bit cheaper now and a great seat. even shipping your stock seat out there and buying an ultimate seat set is probably cheaper than a duel tour now. corbin's asking $699 for just the seat. crazy. but i do like the duel tour. hopefully people with the ultimate mid rider can post there opinion. i'm kinda curious.

I puchased a 02 1800R with Corbin Dual Tour that previous owner put on. I have found the seat to be VERY VERY hard. I can only ride about 100 miles and have to get off for a while.
The previous owner mentioned he had the seat "fitted" for this Axx so maybe that is the problem.
Corbin will rework back to original for 250.00 if I ship to CA. but I don't know if I want to spend that $$ and end up with the same result.
I also spoke with another VTX 1800R rider that had the corbin seat. She went on a long ride and ended up having to get therapy on her back/hips after that. Needless to say she changed seats.
I think Corbin is over rated.
Anyone have suggestions on a good dual rider seat for the 1800R?

For what its worth: I just got back from 1,100 mile ride in 19.5 hours on my new Ultimate Big Boy seat. It arrived 3 days before this trip and prior to that I had the stock seat on my 1800R (I have spent a few hundred miles on my father's 1800R with a Mustang seat as well for comparison). The Ultimate Big Boy by FAR is the most comfortable seat I have ever used. My a$$ was the ONLY part of my body that was NOT sore after this most recent ride.

Hey i've been looking at a bunch of post were people were upset about corbins price increase? Here my thoughts, if you get the four pieces from ultimate for the 1300 or the 4 piece for the 1800 its like 800 bucks then if you dont have a passenger sissy bar bracket then thats another 215 to somebody (whether it be hondaline or corbra or whoever). Anyway if you get the seat from corbin for 699 and then one backrest (that fits both the rider and/or passenger) for 250. Either way you end up spending about a 1000 bucks.
For those if you who have the Corbin DT, Do you like it, love it, or been better off with an ultimate?

Ultimate will let you return the seat within a couple of weeks or so (see their website or call 'em). Order it and see if you like. If you don't you're only out the shipping.

The only catch with that is if you get one of custom stitches (wolf, flag, etc) then they won't take the seat back. Having said that though...
I've got the ultimate and I gotta tell ya my rear is much happier. Definately recommed it for anyone looking to upgrade from the stock.

If you send your seat back to them because you are unsatisfied, how are you going to get your original seat back if it has been reworked by Ultimate?
Something else you non F model owners need to consider is the F model is almost 3 inches short than it's brother the C model. Hince why Ultimate doesn't offer a rider back rest for the F model. So the Ultimate seat is shorter, has 2 inches less width than the other big boy models. F model owners really want to hear from other F model owners that have BUTT first hand knowledge of how the Ultimate Midrider compares to the Corbin Dual Tour on the F model itself.

I have a corbin DT with chrome grabrail and backrest for my 2002 1800 R. I'm looking to eventually sell it and get an Ultimate Bigboy.

BilboTN, i hope you are selling this corbin for reasons other than looks. Your bike looks preety slick with that corbin dt. I realize Ultimate might be softer but there is no contest in the looks department. The corbin DT makes a nice looking X

I'll throw my two cents worth in for the Ultimate. Tried the BigBoy but I'm just not big enough, sat me too far back, if you're long legg-ed or real big it may work for you. I went to the Lowrider, and with my short legs, it's great. My feet rest comfortably on the floor pads and I'm close enough to the ground that I can put both feet down comfortably and can easily reach the brake and shift lever without stretching.
For my money, you can't go wrong with the Ultimate but get the backrest, best thing I ever did for my back. I ride big miles with PGR with no problems.

If your riding oneup then the saddleman seat is very comfortable. I weight 400 lbs and have over 70,000 miles on it so u know its durable. Still rides nice.

Stick with your stock seat...
It will help keep your resale value high with the low miles.

:?: Don't understand what the big deal is. I had a '78 GoldWing and all I needed was a small, thin rug (1' X 2'), folded it double and had no problem knocking off 600 miles in a day (all backroads). On my '82 Wing, I bought a sheepskin car seat cover and cut it to size and it worked even better. Am now using a new cut out on my 2003 VTX1800C and doing 600-800 miles and loving it!! You might want to try one of these two ideas before you go out and spend big bucks on a seat you might end up hating!!!

Okay here is my problem. I am 6'3'' and my wife is 5'4''. She is tired of reading DOT. Does the Ultimate Big Boy change riding heighth for rider or Passenger? She really has gotten to the point where she does not like riding because of reading DOT the whole time. Thank you for your replies.

Has anyone heard of this seat? I am curious of your opinions.

I have no experiance with it.
It used to get mentioned here quite a bit, but since the Ultimate has become popular it is pretty much a Corbin or Ultimate discussion. That is just what I have observed.
Logic would tell me it is a lesser seat, but I have no facts to back that up!

Just to throw another seat in the mix, I use the Mustang seat with driver back rest - I can ride all day. By all day I mean 18 hrs at a crack. I could only get about 2 hrs out of the stock seat and would get off with a very sore tail bone and a pinch in the shoulder blades. Not with that Mustang!

The Ultimate is sweet on your backside, the drawback is that you need to order the rain cover to protect it in inclimate weather. I've had both the "BigBoy" and Mustangs Wide Touring seats, both are excellent seats, well worth the money, but having to dig for the seat cover during spring showers tilted me toward the mustang side of the fence

I usually carry a bag along, in case of a downpour while it is parked. Otherwise there really isn't a problem. You don't want to let it get soaked.
I spoke to Des before I bought mine and that is what he told me, and that is what I have found.
It is just that there is a chance of some water getting in through the thread holes and Des is the kind of guy that would rather warn you to prevent it then have you mad later!!
No seat cover here, and I am very happy!
I use a bag for shorter stops if it is raining, or a bike cover if it will be outside overnight while raining. Otherwise I don't worry!

I'm no longhauler or Ironbutt....yet, but I'm surprised no one here has talked about Bad-X yet. I'm about to send in both my seats here to have him do the VTX Extreme Mod to both my seats. Just check out the posts about his seat mod and the reviews by many VTXers. He customizes the seat to your dimensions and many claim that they're more comfortable than the corbin, mustang, and Ultimate seats. The best part also is that he quoted both my seats shaved, shaped, and memory foamed at $180 with s&h. Definitly a Cash and @$$ saver. Check him out

I ordered a mid-rider from Ultimate Seats and thought I liked it. I went on a 130 mile ride and found a personal closeness with the gas tank I did not like; too close. I got cold every time I filled the tank. Ok, got the picture. Anyways, I'm 6'2" 300 lbs. and the seat is too short for me. It had great lower back support and the wife loved the passenger seat. I returned it with no issues and got my original seat back. I think they are a good company with a good product and are easy to work with. The seat just didn't fit me.
