Maybe I am one too :?:

Is there a Waypoint or POI database of the US that has LOTS of variety?

I have found a few smaller databases, but nothing that is comprehensive.

I am especially interested in things like:

National Parks
Entertainment
Tourist Information and POI's
BIKER FRIENDLY Bars
Biker Rally's (Waypoint and Rallys)
Unusual RESTAURANTS and Bars

You get the picture...I want to just hop on my bike for a few days and just ride and PICK the sites I want to see rather than HUNT for them.

Anyone else can chime in too.

Thanks,

Wally

[I also answered your specific post to me in the 1300 forum.]

I just got back from a 5-day SF Bay Area to Las Vegas, of course USING my GPS, so am just getting to these "old" posts today.

I've been using the same ex-flagship Garmin GPS for 3 years now, the rock-solid StreetPilot III Deluxe. I personally know of no comprehensive database that lists all those items, some of which you must realize are fairly unique. My SPIII certainly DOES generate lists of parks, POI's and all types of Entertainment (the latter which would include all bars and restaurants, but not really delineating between those frequented by bikers or uh, "normal" people- haha). Besides the SPIII itself, you could probably print out a lits of places using Garmin's companion Map Source PC application -- a number of GPS units do use these programs.

Another great source of info is the GoldWing forum (of GPSs and related electronic devices). As you can guess, it is heavily posted. I actually signed up on that site for the info re GPSs, satellite radios and music, etc. You could peruse it here: http://www.gl1800riders.com/forums/view ... 88fc1ce207 (http://www.gl1800riders.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=0bb8d53e3c21934869834988fc1ce207)

For the biker-specific stops, if you Google several buzz words you can find a number of lists already posted on line. If you were in California -- and particularly the Greater SF Bay Area -- I could send you a link to a webpage I made that I call "Blade's List of Biker-Friendly Stops" which are about 70 unique bars and/or restaurants, most of which I have personally patronized and reviewed with 1 to 3-blade ratings depending on how comfortable a biker would feel there or authenticity.

Best of luck and ride (or navigate) SAFE!!!

Here are a few sites I have found recently...

http://www.gps-poi-us.com/
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/default.asp?CAT_ID=20
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

All of these have some POI collections listed on them...

There are a lot of places for Europe, but the ones for the USA are just getting off the ground apprently.

Hope these help...
