I'm thinking about buying a Garmin V Deluxe to put on my bike. But as I read more about the Garmin the more questions I have. All the information I read says that all the detailed mapping comes on a DVD not a CD. Is there any way around this? I just bought a computer and it doesn't have a DVD player. Does anybody know of another way to get the detailed street/town information other then off of the DVD? thanks, Streetpilot

What computer did you just buy that didn't have a dvd reader? I would have guessed that most any machine made in the past year or so would have had a dvd drive. Oh, well.
The City Navigator mapping software v7 is on dvd, not available on cd due to the size of the files. v6 is on cdrom as the files are not as large.
You might be able to get v7 to work by copying part of the files to a cdrom to install the program and then copying the remainder of the files to the directories after the partial install is finished.
It would be a lot simpler to just buy a dvd drive, they are $30-40 and a few minutes to install. You will probably use it for more than the mapping software anyway.

I bought a 2610 about 2 weeks ago not knowing that the maps were on a DVD. Went to Best Buy and purchased a DVD ROM for $45.00 and installed it. Everything is working fine.
