Me on the soap box.......Please don't take it personally !!!
I have a Central Florida email list that I send out a personal email to everytime there is something planned. There is close to 100 riders on that list and I get a little handful of response from. The biggest ride had 25 riders in it.
Go ahead and call me bad for dropping the ball lately, but that does not explain the no shows for last summers rides. I got emails from people asking to make some of the rides for Sunday instead of Saturday because of work. I tried some Sunday rides, but still no shows. I was asked to ride to different areas, I did that and still no shows.
I have heard that some think that the Central Florida Xers have there own click. Well if you consider the same riders showing up 95% of the time a click then I guess that what it is. We have had rides from Clearwater, Daytona, Brooksville, Mt Dora - all over the place and the same riders show up... I just do not get it.
There are alot of riders from Tampa to Daytona - Gainsville to Sebring and the same people show up. COULD someone explain this to me?
I have figured out one thing in life - You can't make everyone happy. But if you put some sort of effort towards it then just maybe you can be noticed.....
If anyone would like to join in and ride - I would be happy to ride for an hour or two just to get to your neck of the woods.
I firmly believe that the area I have been given to ride in is way too big... I wish someone else would do some planning for the Northern area just because it is a 3 to 4 hour ride from central florida....
I needed to vent - sorry

Lady VTX-
I just met Troy at a Mobil gas station and learned about your group. I would love to ride with you sometime - I am based out of Brandon area. I have two little ones so I don't know that I will be able to be a die hard member but I will definitely try to make any rides in my area. My e-mail is kippercal@earthlink.net if you could plug me in.
Sorry to hear about people blowing smoke ~ it does not surprise me.

Lady VTX, I'm a snowbird from Maine that will hang out in Clearwater,Fla. from late Oct. to mid-April 2004-2005. I'll be watching for your future ride posts for central Fla. I know from just nine weeks there this spring, late Jan. to March, how the weather can change real quick, but I hope I'll be able to catch up and do a few rides with you!

Don't be sorry, Mendee. You are right. You have had several responses here from people who ride with Southern Cruisers. I discovered them through someone I met at last year's VTX BBQ in Bartow. They have about 5 or 6 chapters in the area you are trying to cover. I don't even consider you to be in Central Florida. Brandon is maybe "South West Central"? The reason they are so successful is that each chapter has regularly scheduled rides every other week (my experience, minimum of 12-15 riders each ride - sometimes as many as 30-50). You can't ride on Sundays? Ride with the S. Lake Chapter - they ride on Saturdays. You suddenly have a Sunday free? Ride with the Central Chapter - they are only about 25 miles apart! They also have weekly meetings for dinner and ride planning. It's not an easy job to be an officer or road captain of one of these groups and you have to appreciate the effort that goes into it. And we all appreciate the effort YOU put into it, so don't take it personally when you don't get the turnout you hoped for. I tried to get some interest drummed up for rides from the Orlando area myself, back in the winter when the weather was perfect, and the best I got was 4 VTX's and my buddy on his Nomad to Daytona Loop a few months ago (and two of those were the "regulars" you speak of!). Strange, really. You see VTX's all over the place. Hell there are several in my NEIGHBORHOOD! And yet you seldom see more than two riding together. I'm beginning to think we are socially dysfunctional! I gave up when I joined the SCRC... That being said, I really enjoyed our ride to Plant City Bike Night couple months ago and will always join you when the schedule is right and the destination is within striking distance (I had no desire to get up at 3 a.m. to ride to HDL - lived in S. Fl and never want to go back if I can help it!)
BTW, the chapter I ride with has quite a few VTX owners in the roster. We are taking a ride to Cedar Key this Saturday. All are welcome! Check it out! http://www.scrcsl.net/
