Hello Xers I am planning a 850 mile trip to texas sometime this fall and would like some advice. Have never been on long trip like this but won't let that stop me. Looking to make the trip in 1 1/2 days one way just to enjoy it some. Would you take interstates to cut the time down or take secondary roads. My thoughts are interstates are safer in theory because less intersections and side roads. But less enjoyable because rigs and lack of scenery, etc. Taking my buddy with his ride and will be packing light with two saddle bags and sissy bar pack. Items to take that are a must other than foul weather gear of course, flat repair, bungees, what else? thanks
State and county roads. Ride 55-65, not 75-80 to keep up with traffic. Put your feet up, lean back and enjoy. Find backroads with twisties. If you plan on camping, most CGs have showers and wireless so you can keep us posted. As I am doing. 8)

Last fall we rode from Clarkston, WA to Reno for Street Vibrations. It was late September, and it was really pretty cold. We stopped in at WalMart (you can stop wherever you like) and picked up those ThermaCare heat patches. One on the shoulders and one on the low back will keep you nice and warm for 8 hours.
Ride safe, and have a great time!!

Need a little more info on when/where exactly are you planning on it. Unless it's like middle November-Febuary, you probably won't need foul weather gear unless we have an early winter (yeah right!). Like was said before find the backroads and ride them. Much more relaxing.......

I would like to try it in October. I have a good friend that lives in New Caney, TX and I go down every year to ride horses for a week in the late winter or early spring. Missed my trip earlier but thought about trying bike ride then horses for a few days then come home. I might have me some patches made up for the trip and call it the KenTex Real/ Steel horses ride1700 ha ha.[/b] Ken - Kentucky -Tex- TEXAS. 1700 should be the round trip mileage. Just thoughts rumbling around for now.
