I need a little help. My wife and son are traveling to New York to see baseball stadiums and I am looking for a couple of hotels. Decent places that are not too pricey. Any suggestions? They are traveling August 6,7,8,9,10th. And my wife wants to see a show. SHe is traveling with 2 17 yearolds.
Thanks

Yankee and Shea stadiums. Dont forget the minor league stadiums!
There's no such thing as a cheap hotel in NYC (Manhattan). At least none that I could vouch for.
I would guess a decent place would be in the $200/night range. I know the Pennsylvania hotel on 34 street (across from Madison Sq Garden) has rooms in the $150 range but have only seen the hotel from the outside (which looks very nice). Hotels in the financial district are often overlooked but they can be a bargain on weekends since its pretty dead.
Check out hotels.com.
Before you decide to stay in Brooklyn, Queens or NJ think about 2 major factors (IMO). 1-How late will you to be traveling back to the hotel. If youre renting a car then its no big deal except for Pkg, GAS and tolls.
2-factor in the cost of getting to and from the city or stadiums and weigh that against the cost diff of a NYC hotel vs a NJ hotel.
Dont forget parking which is pretty expensive in Manhattan. I would not rent a car if I were staying in the city. As I said above, Mass transit is pretty safe during game time.
NYC is a great place to visit, but it aint cheap.
Good luck!

Chef I would say try a hotel here in NJ. Somewhere close to the train. You can take the train which travels very frequently both ways from NJ to NY. When you stay in NYC there is a large sur-charge. When you save there will pay for the trains. When you in NYC where the train leave you ,you can take the subway everywhere from there. I'm pretty sure there is some sort of all day pass or all week pass you can use for the subway. There is much to see from one end to another. If this is your 1st time in NYC you just have to go see a Broadway Play. Nothing like it in the world. In Times Square there is a discount ticket booth you can try for same day shows. have a great time there.
