CHICAGO -- A 47-year-old Capron man died in a cornfield following a motorcycle accident while police were searching for him in unincorporated McHenry County early Sunday, according to a release.

Motorcyclist Kurt Regnier called police himself to report that he had been in an accident and had landed in a cornfield about 1:28 a.m. Sunday.

According to a release from McHenry County Sheriff’s police, the McHenry County dispatch center received a cellular call from Regnier, who said he had been involved in an accident in a cornfield but was unsure of his exact location. A short time later, Regnier tried calling police again, this time the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.

Based on the first two calls, police began looking for the injured man, but it wasn’t until a passing motorist noticed and notified McHenry County Sheriff's police of the accident in the 25600 block of Dunham Road that was he found, the release said.

The McHenry County Coroner's Office pronounced Regnier dead at the scene, after members of the Harvard Fire Department and McHenry County Sheriffs police responded.

Regnier, of 350 S. East St. in Capron, Ill., was pronounced dead at 5:50 a.m. of head, neck and chest trauma, according to an autopsy performed Monday, the coroner's office said.

An initial investigation revealed Reginer was westbound on Dunham Road when he exited the roadway to the south for unknown reasons and came to rest in the cornfield, the release said. Reginer and his motorcycle were partically hidden from view because of standing corn.
