Wife and I are leaving May 17 for vacation on the bike. Thought we might ride to Nashville first. Any good way to get there besides I-40, that will not take forever. Will probably like to get there before dark on the 17th. Any ideas on where to stay uptown, so we can take in the sites? Maybe meet a couple of fellow Xers will in town.
Will be leaving from West Central NC.

Just a suggestion, but if you have plenty of time here is the way I would go.
I-40 west to the Waynesville exit. Then take US 19 south until you hit US 129. Take US 129 across to Tennessee (this is thru Deal's Gap and across the Dragon's Tail - one of the best bike rides in the world). Go to www.dealsgap.com (http://www.dealsgap.com) and see why. Then take US 129/US 411 into Maryville and hit US 321. Take US 321 into Lenoir City and across to US 70. US 70 all the way to Nashville.
I've been on all those roads and it's a great trip. You can eliminate any part of the trip simply by jumping onto the interstate. But US 70 and US 129 are great roads.
Good luck and enjoy!!!

BTW, I have a US 3D Quad of the area between Knowville and Ashville hanging in my office that I look at every day. My goal is to get back to God's country some day.
