Hi y'all,
I'm retired and recently moved down to Ringgold in north GA just south of Chattanooga. I was wondering if there are any other VTX riders in the area?
I've only been here for a couple of months so I don't know the roads at all in this area. I live in the town of Ringgold about 8 miles from the I-75 Ringgold exit. I bought my new 2004 Spec 3 VTX1800R on my way down here from western NY near Buffalo. I'm not a newbie to riding with about 40 years of riding and owning a ton of different bikes.
What's with the cost of bike insurance down here? I have a quote from an independent insurance agent. It's through Progressive and it's about $750 pear year. That's about triple what I paid in NY and about the same as my car or truck.
Anyway, I hope to see some of you out there riding!

welcome to the south where grits are king.
My Progressive insurance on a 1800R is about $ 350 for everything.
I'd ask WHY??
I'm located in Cartersville which is on down I75 from you.

Something ain't quite right there. Is your record clean? My 03 1800R is a little over 300 per year.

Welcome to the board and Georgia. You can also visit the "Georgia" board on this forum as well. There are several members in the Ringoold area/Chattanooga area.
I have my insurance through Foremost, division of Progressive. Under $300/year.

Hey Bob, welcome to Ga. and the board. Insurance... I have progressive and have talked to a progressive agent and learned that if you go thru the internet for thier insurance it is alot cheaper then going thru an agent. I pay 286 a year with higher limits then most and 250 deductables.

Maybe I should call Progressive directly? I have a clean record and over 35 years licensed riding experience. I got that high quote from the agent that I bought my homeowner's insurance from. It's an independent agency and they said that was the best price. Maybe she did something wrong... well, probably she did going by the prices you guys are paying. Thanks for that info!
What brought me to GA was a separation from my wife. I had an affair with a younger lady from this area a couple of years ago. I used to travel south during the winters and this area is about where campgrounds start staying open all winter. I wanted to get away from the snow we had up north south of Buffalo in what was called the "snow belt." Six months of winter is way too long. Now I have to learn to deal with this heat.
I've been all over Florida and most of the south. The cost of living is low here and it's in the general geographic area where I wanted to live which was TN, GA, NC and SC areas.
Now I have to get out and learn the roads. I was a highway engineer up north for the NY DOT, so I knew the roads very well up there and I used to lead club and chapter rides. I'm retired and don't need to endure that snow any longer. I just switched from sport bikes to the VTX. It takes a bit getting used to. I've had almost every full dresser made, but none since my 2002 HD Ultra Glide which I sold in 2003.
Thanks for the welcome!
Bob
BTW, I'm about 8-10 miles south of the I-75 Ringgold exit.

Well Bullhead, you would know why I got out of Buffalo and headed south. I was staying in an apartment in Cohutta until I bought a house here in Ringgold. I'm basically starting over from scratch. I don't know yet if this will be a permanent residence or seasonal. It all depends on how things go with the family back home in Orchard Park... the home of the Buffalo Bills... nothing to brag about tho...

Progressive ins $300/year
Welcome to the area! You are very near some really great riding. North central GA and up into NC is some of the best there is.
Head out the driveway and point her to the northeast! Cherohala Skyway, Deals Gap, and the Blue Ridge Parkway should get you started.

Hey Bob,
Welcome. I lived in Ringgold for 12 years. I'm now in Dalton just down the road from you. Looking forward to riding with you and yours.
Can't help on the insurance since I am paying more than everyone here is quoting. Not much more but enough for me to take another look at my rates. I an going through my agent that carries my homeownders and car insurance. I'm paying around 550.00 per year.
Once again welcome.

Hey Bob, Welcome to the board and the Sunny South. I hail from East Aurora, NY. In part, I too am here because 3 months of summer was a bummer. I believe my wife being from GA had something to do with it also. In any case like many of the others I have Progressive and am putting out $300.00 per year. Call em.

Bob,
Another Progressive here around $350, so you definitely need to look into the situation.
Check out the post on Smokin' in the Smokies on the Gerogia Forum. Basically, it's a VTX gathering at the Kickstand Lodge in Stecoah, NC for three days of riding in the Smoky Mountains. Although the KSL only has tent camping left, there are still plenty of rooms available in the Robbinsville area.
So if you want to meet some of the local VTXers, plus get in some great riding, sign up and join us!

I use Markel (www.bike-line.com (http://www.bike-line.com)) for all my bikes. Only runs about $249 for my X. Welcome to the area.
