View Full Version : Honda of Spartanburg sold.....
to the Suzuki/Yamaha dealership on Hearon Circle. Neal is not staying. Bad news, for sure.
I don't trust anyone but Neal. Is there another Honda shop in the Upstate that you can trust for maintenance? Can anyone recommend an honest mechanic?

Foothills Honda in Powdersville has a top notch service dept. I usually take my bike to Anderson Honda, where I bought it and they are ok.
Laurens Honda is a good shop also.

where will Neal go??
I talked to Neal yesterday and he said that the whole shop will probably move to Hearon Circle in 2 - 3 weeks.
The important part is that Neal will be there, too. He is on vacation next week and he said that they might start moving while he is gone.

The fact that Neil will be there is excellent news. Never liked having anyone but him or me work on my bike.
The update that I got yesterday from the parts guys at Honda of Spartanburg is that Neal has NOT decided to work at the new store. Evidently, it might still be up in the air, but the way they sounded, he probably will not. They said the Hearon Circle shop will be run just like a car dealership and service prices are likely to be outrageous.
I don't know who the owner of the Hearon Circle shop is, but he should spend whatever it takes to get Neal there. Not only does he have 35+ years experience working on Hondas, but he'll bring a huge amount of business with him. If Neal is not there, I plan to take my bike to Foothills in Piedmont, though that is a doggone long ways from my home.

Hey Folks. Just found this site and look forward to the chit chat.
I spoke with Alan Saturday and was told that Neal was going to KG Motorsports. Sure enough, I rode by there and they had a sign out that read "Neal is Here".
Just as a side note, I have had good experiences with Honda of Laurens so far. But I know how you feel.....Neal was wrenching on my old CB750 back in '79.

And for us "New Guys In Town", KG Motorsports is where? :D

Sorry about the lack of directions.
KG Motorsports is roughly two miles from the old Honda shop on the Asheville Hwy (US176) just past the John Dodd Rd intersection on the left.
It's a small shop that sells pocket bikes, dirt bikes and four wheelers.

Honda of Laurens is a good place to go to have work done. Greg is a good wrench and the parts people are easy to deal with. I bought my VTX there and begged them to put me to work so now I work there on saturdays so come see me.
Thanx Larry

OK, I went by and talked to Neal @ KG Motorsports. He said the way the deal went down at the everybrand store was kinda weird. He didn't elaborate.
I think he made the right choice. The folks at KG are nice. I met Karen at the store Neal is at. They have 2.
If you are leaving Sparkle City on the 176, you pass the old Honda shop and keep going. KG is on the left, just past John Dodd Road. Ph: 864-599-1200.

Its been a long time since I visited Honda of Laurens. But they have always had a good shop.
I grew up in Watts Mill, back then the honda shop was up past Childress Groceries were Cheeks has his store now :)

Man, I hate to hear that about Honda of Spartanburg. I hope that Neal can continue to give the fair prices that have always went along with his great service. He just serviced my bike a couple of weeks ago, but I am close to needing a set of tires and a brake job.....
This may hurt our pocket books.
I bought my bike from Honda of Laurens but anytime I have asked them about service pricing it seemed a good bit higher that Neal. They do seem to have a good setup.

Update on this old thread.
I went by KG yesterday to see Neal and the shop was closed. Empty.
Called the number on the window and the lady at KG in Gaffney said Neal had a nervous breakdown. Supposedly, he said that he didn't ever want to touch another motorcycle. That he hated the motorcycle industry.
Anyone know how to get in touch with him? This is kinda hard to believe.
Anyone know a good wrench in upstate, SC?

I didn't realise it was that bad. I had talked to Karen back in the fall and inquiered about Neil and she said he wasn't feeling well and having some family and nervous problems. I thought maybe anxiety or depression due to job change but this just doesn't seem like the Neil I know. Never met a better or fairer mechanic. He seemed happy at KG too. Pass along my best wishes if you happen to see him and I'll do the same.

Hey guys. I was at Palmetto Cycles (the new Honda dealership in Spartanburg) a month or so ago and Daryl told me that Neil may be coming to work there. May want to give them a call. I'll be going by there Friday afternoon or Saturday morning and I'll see what I can find out.
Hopefully what has been heard isn't true.....but if it is, I wish Neil the best. He has always been a helluva nice guy.

I saw Neal at the Palmetto Cycles last week he seem fine to me. I have know Neal for several year now he is a good person.
I would not believe everything you hear. Loosing your job can be very
stressful, I know I just got the word Wednesday that TYCO Electronic
in Spartanburg is closing, that is where I have worked for the
past 8 years. We all knew it was coming , but it still is
very stressful. I hope Neal will be happy there at Palmetto Cycles
I wish him well. I am going to try and go by and see him from
time to time. I wish I had my on motorcycle shop I would
have him working for me. Good luck to Neal!!!!

Hey Ralph, Thanks for the update on Neil. Glad to know he is OK.
Sorry to hear about TYCO closing and the job loss. Been there, done that quite a few years ago. Hope all works out well for you!

First off, I very glad to hear Neil is doing well. I'm also glad to hear I still have a person I truely trust to take my bike to. I met Neil back in '86 when I still lived in WI but was here with a nail in my tire, Neil made sure I was able to get in and out quickly with a new tire so my vacation wasn't interupted or delayed. Moved here in '87 and he gets all the work I can't or choose not to do myself. Nothing but praise for his workmanship and work ethic, not to mention he's just a helluva nice guy.
