Welcome to the area. I'm right down the road from you, between Ballentine and Irmo. Let me know if you need help with anything.

When your bike gets here, maybe we can take a ride so I can let you see what the rear fender of a Red Retro looks like as it gradually fades off over the horizon.

:-D

My cell phone number is 803 315 4396.

....OK I guess I'll let ya by me a few times, since this is your town & I don't want ya upset with me! 8) .....JK, I do expect the bike to show up next week some time & CAN'T WAIT to RIP it up out here! How are the police on these what seem like "traffic-less" roads in the Chapin area anyway. In California you can smidge the speed limit to about 8 miles per hour over the posted limit...what about out here? How are they with speed limits?

I don't think you can generalize about police, especially in this area. I don't go around Chapin very often, but the Irmo police force really enforces the speed limit with speed traps. I rarely go more than 1 or 2 MPH over the speed limit in Irmo, usually staying right on the limit.

Depending on the time of day, the Interstates are either wide open, or set up with speed traps. They'll usually pick up speeders on the slack side lanes during rush hour. In other words, traffic leaving Columbia in the morning, and traffic coming into Columbia in the afternoon. Otherwise, you'll rarely see a radar cop sitting on the side of the road around here. The good thing is that they can't jump the medians like the used to, even out of town, because of all the cable restraints they've installed.

Newberry County is notorious for troopers just out of the training school there, doing their internship. They're merciless - got a new ticket book, and need to start writing as many as possible.

Keep in mind that there are motorcycle cops both in the city and on the Interstates, mostly BMW's donated by the manufacturing plant in Greer, SC. I've seen them sitting on the Interstate shoulder early in the morning, holding a radar gun. I also recently (for the very first time) saw a major speed limit enforcement operation, where a cop was hidden behind a sign on an overpass, with a radar gun, and then just over the hill, it looked like Christmas in July. That was scary - I was lucky that day. It looked like everybody already had a customer, or several of us would have been toast.

Except when I'm trying to avoid the situations listed above, I usually go 10 to 15 MPH over the limit, and when out of town on the open Interstate, I let it roll.
