This post is not intended - IN ANY WAY - to try to coerce or convince people one way or the other. I'm posting here, to be sure those who have not yet checked back with Delphi will have an opportunity to see this. The debate is not looking like one between formats, but between the groups posting to the respective forums. There is, in my opinion, no reason to debate over which of the forums should be our "Official" forum, and there is, for me, no longer a decision to be made. It has already been made... BY US!
Regardless of any post-event disillusionment, IndyJ was our duly appointed web-master. This means he was given not only the responsibility, but the authority to make the decisions about our web presence FOR US!!! This means that the decisions he made were made by us... even if by proxy!
IndyJ was within his authority in handing over the reins of the "Official" WAVTX forum to Tony Meier. Tony has been a part of this group since day one, and offered then to host a site for us. He has now been handed the reins, and asked to continue IndyJ's work... therefore HE is the official web-master for Washington VTX Riders. The site he is hosting is "THE" Official site. Period.

Well you got it Bro!
I am happy for those who chose this path. Sincerely hope the best for the group, seriously I do.
That is the official site, he is speaking for everyone. This forum will be left up for those of us users here who support the VTXOA and still wish to share experiences here.
For a more Generic approach, see the new forum. I have heard from more then a few who wished for a more open like environment.
Glad the polit-tickng is over, everyone can get what they want and how the want it. I like it! Choices!
God Bless America!
Washingrton VTX'rs Good Luck! Thanks for Leavenworth it was a blast. Hope we all can do it again when things calm down.
Ride Safe!
Peace!

Sounds like you have appointed yourself the official spokesperson. I'm afraid I have some heartburn with this. "Official" web site for the Washington VTX riders? I too thought I was a member from the beginning back when this group sprung from Wilbur's vtxriders web site where all of the states and their members are listed. When your so called "official" web site was handed over I was no longer on the member list. So I guess you and Tony decided to throw me out. Suits me fine. Don't particularly like being tossed out as if I don't matter. I also don't like people making decisions for me as you are trying to do here. VTXOA looks like a good home to me.

I am sorry you have chosen make this as a personal attack on you. How can I not like you... I don't even know you! And neither do you know me, so please don't assume to know the type of person I am.
Clearly, you have no idea what has happened!
When Indy shut down his web site, he was not able to transfer the membership roster to me. So I sent an email to everyone on his roster, letting them know of the change and how to get setup. If you did not recieve this, I can only suggest that Indy had your email incorrect or missing. As to the forum, Delphi requires you to set up an email address and a password, just like this one does.
I hope that clears things up for you and anyone else who feels the same way.

The original Washington VTX Riders list came from Wilbur's www.vtxriders.com (http://www.vtxriders.com) web site as did all of the other states. I would have had no problem signing up on the new Washington site if all I needed was an email address and password as you stated. That is reasonable. However, I tried that approach and it would not accept anything less than all fields filled out. That meant I had to post my phone number and my home street address. I do not feel that is reasonable. I guess I don't understand why the members lists doesn't go to Wilbur's vtxriders site because that is where the original group started and how Chris became coordinator. This is why I took issue to the statement of "official" web site. I think some have either forgotten the "roots" of this group or were not here then and don't know how we got started.

The original Washington VTX Riders list came from Wilbur's www.vtxriders.com (http://www.vtxriders.com) web site as did all of the other states. While that incarnation of VTXOA DID provide the beginning of the state groups, to my knowledge, it had nothing to do with IndyJ's site. Chris volunteered as coordinator, and got a list of names/email addresses. He started our group, if you recall, as a Yahoo! email list. IndyJ's site didn't require anybody to sign up for anything... anyone could post. A voluntary list was available as our "Mutual Aid Network", and required a password to access, so that not just everyone could get telephone numbers and email addresses. Even if you had been on Wilbur's list (which I was - it's how Chris initially got in touch with me), there was no transfer - whatsoever - to IndyJ's site. If you didn't provide him the info, he didn't have it! To my knowledge, that is the extent of the "lists" we have/had. I would have had no problem signing up on the new Washington site if all I needed was an email address and password as you stated. That is reasonable. However, I tried that approach and it would not accept anything less than all fields filled out. That meant I had to post my phone number and my home street address. I do not feel that is reasonable. I don't quite know what to tell you, on this, Rick... Hundreds of thousands - if not millions of people use Delphi. I have never heard of any problems with security or privacy based upon the sign up forms. I also don't recall having to give that information until I became a paying member, and they had to have that information (on their secure site) to verify my credit card infromation. I guess I don't understand why the members lists doesn't go to Wilbur's vtxriders site because that is where the original group started and how Chris became coordinator. Beyond the original email list provided Chris when he volunteered, I know of no other lists. In fact, I'm pretty sure there would be legal/privacy issues in transferring that kind of information freely. We just wouldn't have access to it. It would also NEVER transfer to Delphi. We don't control access to Delphi forums. The host pays Delphi for the space they provide, and they, in turn, control access through their membership process. We don't own that space. IndyJ owned the old space, and provided access free of charge to all of us AND to anyone who wanted to visit. If you wanted to volunteer your contact information, you could do so via the password protected "Mutual Aid Network" list. Let me reiterate - There has been no transfer of "lists" either from Wilbur's original site nor from IndyJ's site to anyone - anywhere. We have had email lists that have been transferred around, starting with the original list Chris got from Wilbur's site. This is why I took issue to the statement of "official" web site. I think some have either forgotten the "roots" of this group or were not here then and don't know how we got started.
I'm sorry you've taken issue with that. My whole point was/is that the site we were using - IndyJ's sponsored site - was our "Official" site. The change in hosts did NOT change the status of that site. The VTXOA forum was set up (as I understand it) because some people were not happy with the forum IndyJ was hosting. By definition, this forum was NOT derived from the the original - that derived from Wilbur's site - and therefore had to be differentiated from the one that had... thus the "Official" moniker. Whether access was paid for by the host alone (as IndyJ had done), by the host AND contributing members (as is the case with the Delphi site), or by a corporate sponsor (as in the VTXOA site), it still has to be paid for. If you were with VTXOA consistently from the time it was under Wilbur's control, till now, then you may not have had to re-enter your info. I was not. I had to re-enter all the stuff he had back when. If this is your big beef, then I'm afraid I have no answer for you. If you want justification for the "Official" moniker - like it or not - I've given that to you. The current forum on Delphi, as a part of the web-site hosted by Tony Meier, is the true decendant of the original group formed from Wilbur's site... that makes it - in MY mind, at least - THE "Official" forum/site of the Washington VTX Riders.
Are you all worked up into a lather because those new highway pegs arent positioned right? You need to push those puppies away from you and out some and get into the low key mellow riding and mental position! if not I may have to borrow my pegs back! if not, i am telling frank on you!

Oh PLEASE, Oh PLEASE Don't tell big, old, loud, scary, ugly knarFie-poo on me!!!
Actually, I finally got them adjusted to where they're feelin' pretty good! My first highway ride (down to school) after getting them to where I wanted them, I was cruisin' along... you know... kinda slow... 85-90... (and that riding position changes aerodynamics... let me tell you!!!) when WHAM!!! I got hit in the forehead by a big old (hard as a rock) wasp! Didn't sting me, but bounced off my head onto the back side of the windshield... then, when the portion of his innards that was glueing him to the windshield let go, he landed and got stuck on my handlbar! Made a mess right after I cleaned all that road grime off! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!
yes those pegs will screw with your flow. they send that breeze right up your leg and the dynamics are all tweeked!

I am sorry you feel your privacy will been invaded. I have over 350 members using the exact same roster format on Norwestars.org. It has NEVER been a problem with spam or any other security issue. WHAT IT HAS BEEN... is a great way for the group to find each other!! Whether it be to call/email about a ride or just to get together and have a beer. This was an invaluable resource this week in rallying the group to the funeral of one of the Norwerstars daughter.
You do not need to join the roster if you do not wish. Or you can provide only the information you want, just use the 000-000-0000. It will never matter unless someone here really needs to reach you.

Since admin here has delete rights, why don't we get rid of some of these combative threads. I see them talking about original members like it got em a gold plated dairy queen spoon. I was there and my picture was in the gallery that is now floating the ether. I won't stop wearing the patch that Indy mailed me either, I suppose that will be next. They will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers, just like my Colt Python. lol.

This is a pretty old thread and to tell the truth, I thought would be buried by now but hasn't. FWIW, I've been a member of Delphi for some time now and haven't experienced any problems with my data. Sure, there is always the chance or risk of someone doing evil things, but I would have to say that is the same way everywhere.
See IMV, Delphi is a major provider and as such has to comply with federal mandates regarding the use of their systems. Put her this way, with as much info you provide, you are less likely to be up to no good. They simply have enough info on you to keep you in line. Big Bro is watching. You can also say, every message is store and backed up. The length of time that data is kept is determined by the feds.
With that said, it is much different then this site. Smaller in nature, but none-the-less, the feds would come in at any time and seize these computers if they believe someone was up to no good.
I say if you are worried about your identity and have no intention of signing up, then you shouldn't. I don't think Tony or anyone else is doing anything bad with your data and have good intentions with building a community of like-minded VTX riders, residing in Washington State. I believe Tony stated he wouldn't respond here, so if you are looking for an answer, you'll have to visit him over there. I don't believe that anyone suggested you give up your patches, you bought it, it's yours.
I hope all this eventually goes away. Nobody wins if this keeps on going. I hope we all mellow and become better friends. It would be a shame if we didn't.
IMHO :D

You are my hero, Al. Gotta love that patience! I just realized why I was angry. I found a copy of a letter I sent Tony offering to help. got no answer back, but he did spend alot of time in these threads, telling eveybody how we werent willing to put any effort in. I was willing to help, and I have web skills that make my bosses elsewhere, rich. lol.
Hi Tony,
This is Winter Lion from bonney lake. Glad to see the site activity and it
sounds like better communication is in the works. Just a note to offer my
services if you need any help. I am retired now, 45 years old with a lot of
forum and web time and would love to help out with anything our club might need.
If and when you do need help, let me know and I could fill out my resume
further. I am working online as a writer for a major gaming fansite, and moderate(admin perks and jerks) at two other forums. but I have
a lot of time I could put into something else............it went on politely and a little too naively, I guess. He probably didn't have time to read it, I know. If he had, he would have had a me to read his email for him, anyways.
naw, im not worried about my data, they have data on someone else if they asked me for something more than the usual. Its my habit, the web is supposed to be anon. lol.

My guess would be to talk to him personally. There was alot of stuff flying around at that time and alot of feathers were ruffled on both sides of the camp. I've never met him myself, but the responses from him have been friendly. Would have like to meet up with them for the ride to the MC show but have some stuff to work through.
