Okay, I found out about Doug. I called his job unfortunately he had an accident on his bike about 3 weeks ago (I think it's totaled). He was in the hospital for a while but I believe he is home now. I just don't know why he hasn't posted yet. His work number is 954-763-6533 ext 253 maybe he will check his voicemail.
I hope you are okay Dog! Let us know how to reach you!

Dang Doug, I sure hate to hear this. I don't like hearing that one of our own went down. If you're home now, I wish you a speedy recovery. Please post up and let us know how things are going. If there is anything we can do.

Hei Doug!
I'm sure You will be ok, so You will be able to smoke some good cigars and borrow one of the Kbobb's friends to wash Your bike.
If anything I can help just let-me know.

DAMMIT IS RIGHT.
i just knew that things were not hunky dorey when we found out he didn't go to Sturgis.
as far as Jim and I remember, he does not have a computer at home and was using the one at work. he also only has a cell phone and if that was destroyed, we would have lost all of our numbers.
we really need to go to his place now.

as some of you already know, we found Doug. Jim and I went to his place and saw him in person.
yes, he did go down. yes, he did get banged up. yes, he will heal up just fine and the bike should be able to be repaired as well.
he is back online and he promises to post up.
so, we will let him tell the story.
speedy recovery to you my friend.

Norm's right.
I was getting onto the turnpike for a day-off ride to Alabama Jacks when a white truck decided he didn't want to take the exit and crossed 4 lanes. Traffic was very heavy and the bike wasn't slowing down as fast as the traffic ahead.
Anyway, I ended up about 30 ft from the bike after skidding about 40'.
I can still see the scene: my bike has done a 360 and is lying on its left side about 40' down the road; I'm on my side, having a very hard time breathing, and there's a F-150 barreling ass in my lane. For a second I thought it'd be noted that I survived the crash only to be run over by some one behind me. :D
I was airlifted to Memorial and diagnosed with 2 broken ribs, dislocated right thumb, and about a foot of road rash on my left leg. I was wearing full road gear and the new Arai helmet is toast as are all the clothing I was wearing. The medics/fire rescue guys were great at getting me stabilized but most of what I was wearing and carrying didn't make it to the personal box. The cops and paramedics were uniform in their praise for wearing a helmet.
I was on morphine for the entire 10 days I was in the hospital. My cell phone was toast and the only number I give out is that one and I wasn't in the mood for phone calls. I came home a 10 days ago. The biggest problem I have is the healing ribs. That and wondering how could I be so stupid as to be caught up in that situation. I'd given serious thought to getting in the far right hand lane (to give me a way out) but wanted to pass that dump truck. Bad decision.
I'm doing OK although the ribs make it tough to get comfortable. I can't seem to be in one position for long before I have to move. I can't lie on my side so I spend time either horizontal or semi-vertical. Coughing and laughing are tough and that first bowel movement was about as painful as I want to experience. I've been eating Advil and Tylenol at night to dull the discomfort so I can get some sleep. I've been doing my deep-breathing exercises and walking to get things back together.
I don't know the status of my bike. The trooper sayed $3-4000. The Progressive agent says Rick Case'll give him an estimate and we'll work things out from there. The only good thing about Progressive is that they'll guarantee the repairs for the life of the bike - or until they cancel my policy.
So I'm looking for a good used car in the $8000 range that I can drive until my bike is resolved. I'm soliciting any and all.
I don't have workers insurance (self employed) and my medical policy ran out July 1 and I was applying for health insurance at Bluewater Books.
My apologies for not putting out the word sooner. I didn't feel like typing the above and it was too uncomfortable to sit at the computer. I feel much better now.
Thanks to CajunDude and dpearly for hunting my sorry ass down and giving me words of encouragement. I've missed some great rides, parties, and even better friends.
Will I ride again? Bet your ass I will.
Will I be more careful and aware? Damn right!
Dog

Don't let the ribs get you down, netdoug. That injury is one of the slowest to heal and one of the more painful ones as you have found out. Time is what you need. That and a thank you to the folks who invented morphine, advil, etc.
The good news is you are around to deal with things. Rest and get well!

Dog...sorry I couldn't make it with Jim and D (we figured out the directions though)...being just around the corner let me know if I can be of service (need any Don Diegos?)...
Been in Tampa last two weeks (home for w/e) rode bike over so it was interesting riding in all the traffic to and from branches...had a couple uh ohs, but most cagers actually saw me and didn't lane change into me...and the two that cut me off actually rolled their windows down too apologize...
Hang in there dude...see you soon...hope you (and MC) are healed up for Sebring...and/or maybe the Coast to Coast Ride...
