Is it against the law here in SC to split lanes when the traffic is stopped on the interstates? It is ok to do it in California & I was not sure if it can be done here....not that there is that much traffic anyway...I just don't want to get into trouble! Thanks....

SECTION 56-5-3640. Motorcycle entitled to full use of lane; riding two or more abreast; overtaking and passing; operation in other instances. [SC ST SEC 56-5-3640]

b) The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken. (c) No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic, or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.

Just in case you were wondering about this:

(a) All motorcycles are entitled to full use of a lane and no motor vehicle shall be driven in such a manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane. This shall not apply to motorcycles operated two abreast in a single lane.

I don't understand your point. Have you EVER seen me give a short answer???????

:-D

(Actually, your answer is incorrect. You CAN split lanes in SC - it works just fine. You're just breaking the law when you do it.)

How about driving on the shoulder of the road. You know when traffic is stopped for rubbernecking or an accident on 26?

That's what I don't understand, They'll let you split lanes but won't let you drive on the shoulder of the road. (they ought to make it a MC only lane) JMHO.
However I have done the side of the road thing once.

SOOO...Just so I know you can't ride on the shoulder here!???  RIGHT!?

Actually the reason that as I understand it that they passed that law (lane Splitting) was for the motorcycles that NEEDED to have the engines cooled off in traffic jams in California!...I could be wrong ..BUT that is what I heard as an explanation at one time! 8)

So true! When we got tied up in the traffic jams in Daytona, we kind of slipped in and out and around to get to our destination. He makes it fun to play follow the leader!

There's no such thing as a traffic jam when I'm on a motorcycle.
