Well I have only been here going on 4 weeks & have enjoyed riding around the area I just moved to. My buddy, I & our wives rode around Lake Murray & that was fun. IF YOU were to suggest a 3 hour ride that was not on the interstate what ride..directions would YOU suggest? I am looking for "Country Riding" & although I LOVE the interstate I kinda got my fill driving the cage from California to here. So I am looking for places to go that you all would suggest since you probably have some GREAT places to ride here! I know if you came to California I could take/tell you great places & canyons to ride!

Suggetions? Maybe a list published or something? :D 8) ANYTHING!

The ride down to Congaree National Park would probably take you an hour each way. The park itself is worth touring, also. If you wear boots, take a pair of tennis shoes.

You could also ride around Lake Greenwood, passing through the town of Ninety Six.

Sometimes the best rides are just to get on your bike, pick a direction and follow the roads. Lake Greenwood is a nice ride. You can also ride up to Pickens and hit the mountains. Real nice ride also.

I grew up in Laurens/Greenwood area. Very nice back country.

mgw12,

If you are ever up this way or plan a ride near the Pickens/Greenville/Anderson/Laurens area. Give me a call.

This is actually for any VTX rider in the area :)

I work 2nd shift during the weekdays but I love to ride most any weekend.

Cool ..my name is Matt & I am GREEN when it comes to this wonderful East Coast! I did get to bring my X along...(the wife said I could!) heh-heh!  ...Actually she loves to ride on the back ..in fact I gotta ditch her most of the time if I want to go solo   And seeing as we are new to the area she is always asking "if I wanna go on a ride"!..Big problem is we have to ditch the kids 13 & 15 :P :P So we really, at this point can't go too far as far as overnighters go. Maybe 4 hour rides max on Saturdays....ALSO I am REAL GREEN with locations & riding time to get to places out here! It is all a GRAND ADVENTURE for us at this point!
Thanks for the invite!  8) 8)

Again, my name is Matt & my home number is 803-945-0050...in case anyone wants to invite me on a tour some Saturday morning!...I only have an 1800   :P :P 8) ...so I will try & keep up!

P.S. I know this is gonna sound whimpy  BUT coming from Southern California & riding bikes for-like-ever, I have NEVER, EVER ridden in the rain!...I just did not go out if it looked like rain in So. Cal. Coming here that is my biggest concern...well that & tickets from the POlice! I have not had one in YEARS & speed EVERYWHERE back in California!...  8)  ...I guess I can use the nickname "DryRider"...heh-heh!

mgw12,
No worrries. The best way to know an area is to get lost in it :)

What part of CA? I went to school, after my time in the Army, in Pomona and lived in Diamond Bar :)

Another good ride with GREAT scenery is SC 11 between I-85 (near Lake Harwell) and I-26, near Spartanburg. This route will definitely be one of your favorites once you've done it once. Besides passing through lush areas near Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee, you'll ride for miles and miles in a valley at the base of mountains.

I lived in the City of Santa Carita, about 30 miles North-West of Pasadena & 40 miles North of Los Angeles. About 50-60 miles North-East of Pomona! :D

You will find SC a world of difference. The pace here is nice and slow compared to CA. The people are some of the best you could ever hope to find and the plants are actually green instead of brown :)

We need to hookup some time.

Yep...It is really Brown compared to here! & you are right the pace is slower...even when riding the X it feels slower riding here than I like to go!....Oh wait I felt that same thing in California!..Could never go fast enough! heh-heh!  8)

eddie's right about highway 11. Just this morning I rode over to Pickens from Greenville on 183 then turned onto 178. I rode it up into North Carolina over the eastern continental divide. There are alot of curves (in the road) and fun to ride if you like twisties. I came back down 178 and turned onto hwy 11 over to US 25 and back down to Greenville. About 110 miles in 2-1/2 hrs. I took my time to enjoy the nice cool weather in the mountains. A beautiful day to ride. I ride hwy 11 and 276 often. Try it, you'll like it.

That sounds cool!..I am going to have to give it a rip...I mean ride! ...heh-heh!
:D
One thing I have noticed is that I have done like 80 mph on the interstate, the 26 & people are passing me like I'm standin still! In California you RARELY EVER see bunches of people doing 80 mph....I was shocked to get pushed & passed by at least 6 cars last Saturday night about 8:00 p.m. 8)
