Went for an awesome ride over Labor Day weekend. Two buddies and I rode over nearly every Colorado mountain pass (paved) over 10,000 ft. elevation. Hit the summit of 19 passes, 1700 miles and some spectactular roads and scenery. This was by far the best trips I've taken, just felt compelled to share the experience.

I've done a bunch of them, but not sure I've hit them all in one trip before. There are some beautiful passes in that state. I'd like to start in Santa Fe (NM) on late spring day and hit them all from northern New Mexico right up to Calgary (Canada) ... and then I'd go over to the other side and come down from western BC through Oregon across to Idaho and back down the backbone into Utah and home.
Crap ... not enough summer left.

I road over 6 passes during the Memorial Day weekend.
It was assume ! Independence Pass still had snow drifts 3 feet high.
We had to walk thru snow to get a picture at the sign !!
Did you do Mt Evans ? ( highest paved road in the US, 14,200 ft )
It was 32 degrees ( wind chill 5 below )

We didn't hit Mt. Evans since it really isn't considered a pass. I've yet to make it up there evan though it's only 1-1/2 hrs away. We didn't see snow on any of the passes but it's supposed to snow this weekened at elevations over 8,000 ft.

Echo Lake/Mt.Evans is one of the best rides on the Front Range!!! You can't get any higher on a paved road!!!!!
I don't read the Ride board that often, but I'd love to hear about the route you took... :D

rockymtnxer, lookin for some input here, going to spending a week with relatives in Longmont, 2nd week of this coming July, and am looking for some good rides. I know about Trail Ridge Rd., and highway 14, I think it is anyway. Goes across the devide north of the national park? Thinkin about a trip to Leadville possibly... maybe Mt. Evans, maybe even Pikes Peak if the weather was exceptional. Any other ideas? Thanks, bro. XRC

Hey XRC, there are so many great rides in CO especially once you get into the mountains....and try to avoid interstate. It really depends on how many miles you're up to in one day or if you're planning on an overnighter. From Longmont I would go up to Ft. Collins and take Hwy 14 up the Poudre canyon to Walden, then south on Hwy 125 & East on Hwy 40 to Granby, then Hwy 34 through RMNP (over trailridge) to Estes Park and back to Longmont. That would be a pretty long day but some awesome riding.
Mt. Evans would be good and it's paved all the way, but Pikes Peak is mostly dirt!
Peak to Peak Hwy from Estes Park is also a fantastic ride and easily done in one day. From Estes Park take Hwy 7 to Hwy 72 and then to Hwy 119.
If your looking for someone to ride with send me a PM me when you closer to coming out.
