Well people I have REALLY ...REALLY been enjoying this local area! Man it has been way fun...even the "Highway" I guess that is what you call them out here(we call them "Freeways" in California...they REALLY move, as in FAST ! I can't explain it except that 55 is the speed limit & well people go like 70-75 and 80 is cooking...BUT if you do go 80 well one does not do that very long....Out here it seems the same BUT the speed is 75 at cruising & then 85-90 is if ya want to pass or go "a little faster" than the cagers.....I still trip on that...it REALLY makes it fun for the ol 1800 N!  8) I could NEVER CRUISE at those speeds!...anyhow haing lived in S. California my whole like each ride out here is a new adventure! 8)

Glad to hear you're starting to settle in. You're right - on the open road, you can really let loose. Don't forget about Newberry County, though - the cops there are merciless.
As far as terminology, you are correct in that we don't use the word "freeway". Our term for "freeway" is "Interstate". Normally, "highway" refers to non-Interstate rural roads that have speed limits of 55 MPH or more, which usually works out to be the US and State roads, such as US176, SC34, etc. Some people also include Interstates when they say HIghways, so it does get confusing.
I'm surprised to hear you saying that people in California don't drive as fast as we do here. I spent a week in San Diego on business, and didn't notice much difference.
Have you taken the route at the edge of the mountains along SC 11 yet? It's really a good ride, with lots of flat open highway, and good scenery. I don't know of any other place that I've been where you can ride that far in a flat valley that close to the mountains.

:-)
You could start at the intersection of I-85 and SC11, or the intersection of I-26 and SC11. Take the entire route - it's worth the trip.
