I was down in Columbia last week and purpoosely drove down 27 to Monticello and then took 587 to Columbia. 587 is the Red Bluff road. The road has recently been resurfaced and my memory is that it is excellent all the way!

Also, it is some of the best curve and elevation road Ive been on in MS. I kept asking myself... am I really in south MS!? Here is a Mapquest link showing the usual route that most take, Hwy 13, highlighted. But 587 is seen to the left running along the Pearl all the way.

This is a ride we will want to take sometime this fall!

That really sounds like a great ride from everything I have heard about it. I really was hoping we could make it the weekend of the Rumble on the River a couple of months ago. Maybe we can ride down to Brookhaven Honda where I bought my X and then make the trip down 587. Just say when!

Brookhaven is possible. Its just a little ways over from Monticello. Could stop in Brookhaven for a mid morning coffee or whatever. Then head down 587 to Red Bluff. Noticed a couple of turn offs that must take you down by the ravine for a view. Have they had to move that road a time or two because of the continued erosion of the Pearl? Seems like that may be whats going on.

Another option would be to ride back up through Prentiss about lunch time and stop for catfish at the Country Fisherman - original location. Great catfish place!

Could do this after we do the levee ride.... just another idea. The ride down 27 to Monticello is a nice two lane road ride.
