View Full Version : Why are we not organized????

I realize that our state is rather tall North to South, and that the members are spread out all over. This makes for problems getting everyone together for rides, meetings and such. Since Crab has his plate full and resigned a few months ago, things are kind of floundering. It has been tough getting the AL deal going and maybe it's time to re-think the organization of the chapters. I mean I hope I am not the only one down this way that would like to get together every now and then with fellow X'ers to shoot the breeze, share tech help & mods, and especially ride!
It is not practical for me to coordinate rides, etc. in the North part of the state, so I am hoping someone from up that way will take the ball and run with it. Alabama unlike some of the other states, say for instance Colorado, does not have large enough metro areas (at least down south) to allow a large enough group to get going.
Maybe it is time we rethink the state-to-state deal, at least down here, and try to form riding groups based on location. For instance, down south, we could grab riders from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to say Fort Walton Beach/Destin, FL. Rides/gatherings could alternate from starting points along the coast, etc. "Gulf Coast X Riders"...sounds nice!
I will post this on the MS board, and the General Board for input. I don't see a chapter listed in NW FL, so maybe this could work. Please respond with your comments.

BamaX I to think we have dropped the ball since Crab had to leave. I can remember when we had in my opinion the best group going. the boys from al./ga/tn.nc./sc allways had a great time whenever we got together. Crap always had a story to tell even if it was a tall tell. and the front tire in the air was always fun to watch. Oldude and me drinking way too much. Pogo and the ga. bunch hanging the curves. I could go on and on. I sure miss riding and seeing all of them but family illness keeps me at home most of the time and for the people that know me know how much i love to ride but family takes priority I hope something can be worked out i would hate to lose this great bunch of people i have come to know.
come see an old man sometime.

Shoot, Don, we love ya, man!! Hopefully, we'll all get together for the Crabster's bachelor thingy, especially if the weather cooperates. Thus far I talked with OldDude (who was going to tell Slider, who was, hopefully, going to pass it along to bamafan12 {Keith} and Ben), Ricky Brown, you and Eric Rush...now there's a stellar group if I've ever seen one; then, I saw Domn8r post (with his new avatar) that he'd try to make it too! I agree, the state of AL (like GA) is just too expansive to expect everyone from all points to make it very often to anything anywhere; as Mel said, this is probably true for most any state, therefore, a more regional/area type thing will probably work better. JMHO.

Perhaps dividing the state into three or more chapters. One for the north, perhaps one each for the north east and the north west. One for central, and one for the south.
I live just south of Birmingham in Alabaster. I would love to meet VTX riders.
Keep the shiny side up! :!:

We've pretty much done that for the south part. Its up to yall in other parts to make it a reality. Our's is a blend of states here on the Gulf Coast, hence our name "Gulf Coast X Riders".

We already have a group that we are trying to make happen. We have had one meeting and are having another on Thursday. Check out the weekly update post for Gulf Cosat Riders in the Mississippi page. We would love to have anyone wanting to belong to a VTX riders group for the Coast.

I live in Andalusia, which is really south, but it would be great to join the LA group or the Gulf Coast group. When is the next time everyone is hooking up?

Due to Hurricane damage and work schedules it may not be until Biketoberfest. There are 5 of us from our group going so far. 3 of us are staying at the Daytona Speedway.

I am a little worried about what PC is going to look like and how many bikers are going to show up for Thunder Beach. I may still cruise down after I make a couple of calls to see how much damage is there and what the roads/bridges are like. I think PC had some twisters from the hurricane but didn't have as bad of water damage.
Look forward to riding with some fellow Xers.[/quote]

My boss went to Pcola this weekend to see his sister. He said the area was torn up pretty bad. Boats on the street, etc. I10 East is closed at exit44 (Foley/Loxley/Gulf Shores) so he did have to go a little bit out of the way to get there.

Well, let me tell you, Crab & Crystal, D-Mac, OldDude, Ben & Kathy, Pete & Roberta, Keith, Rickey Brown, Whispering Bill, Slider, EricR, Domn8r, yours truly here alogwith Mrs. P and lest we ever forget...the one...the only Steven Trew have all riden together a number of times and we're spread from Huntsville (AL) to Cartersville (GA) to Athens (TN). This goes back a couple of years now, so we've done/do/will do that ourselves.
