In the April 2004 issue of American Motorcyclist (publication of the AMA), there is an announcement that Gov. Rendell signed Senate Bill 279 which authorizes special motorcycle registration plates for veterans. They said the law took effect in mid-April. Does anyone know more about the availability of motorcycle plates for vets?
Thanks....Steve
I will be checking into this. I already have a Gulf War plate for my car. Would be cool to have one for the bike. Thanks for the info.

I called PennDOT yesterday since there were no replies from anyone who has them. They said they aren't available yet, but to keep checking the PennDOT web site for an update.
I have an AMA plate on my Dodge RAM ... and that came via the AMA .. maybe they would know something about motorcycle plates ?

The worse part is that I have to take my DD214 down to the courthouse to get it certified by the county recorder's office. Who the hell has time to take off of work to do THAT?!? I'll do it, but it really sucks. Why won't a notorized copy of my DD214 be good enough for PennDOT, if it's good enough for any other VA benefits, even the death benefit??
Typical Rendell administration BS.
Welcome home greetings to you, too, Ragman.

The instructions on the back side of form MV-150 read, in part:
At the top of the form:
"NOTE: A legible certified copy of Form DD214, Separation Papers or Discharge Papers.....must be certified by the County Recorder's Office located in the County Courthouse."
Then again at the bottor of the instructions:
"9. A Veteran Motorcycle applicant must submit a legible certified copy of Form DD214....."
I may try to just send in a photocopy of my DD214 and see what happens. Worse case is that they'll return it with the application, saying it must be "certified".
Has anyone else applied for the PA vet plate? If so, did you send in a "certified" copy of your DD214?

when you got out of the service you sould have taken your discharge papers to the recorder's office to be recorded. Then all you have to do is get them to make you a copy.

Hey Carl, like most equipment you know the Marines get it after the other branches have either worn theirs out or don't need them anymore.

Carl, I'll more than likely be bow hunting that day. Unless the weather is horrible. If that's the case we won't be riding either. I call you if plans change.

When I was discharged I lived in Virginia. Never lived in PA until 10 years ago (discharged in 1972). Virginia didn't have county recorders, only court recorders. Different states have different traditions (i.e. political gravy boats).....
So they haven't started making the plates yet? Wonder if a note to my state rep before Tuesday's election would get me any info? Naw!!!
Guess I'll just wait it out....Steve

I received my motorcycle veterans plate today (mail is a little slower getting to SE corner of PA, probably because the mailmen get caught behind the Amish buggies......).
Worth the wait.
Plan to get out and ride some this weekend...the wind seems to be blowing most of the leaves off of the roads....

I mailed the application paperwork for my vet plate on Monday, August 30. My check was cashed the 2nd week of September. It took until now (November) to get the plate.
I'll bet you will receive yours tomorrow or first thing next week....

Print out the form, include a copy of DD-214, and your check for the exact amount (no rags accepted) and mail to PennDOT.
I have a copy of the form if your rags won't hold the printer ink.....
Merry Christmas.
