Anyone interested in Riding to Stockton Alabama for lunch? Plan to ride to Bay Minette Friday evening (12/29) about 5PM (500 miles). Sleep overnight and head back the next day after lunch at the Stagecoach cafe. Just a meeting of LD riders from around the US. Sounds nutty, it is!

I already signed up on the mctourer forum! Only difference is that I'm going to stay at a Hampton Inn in Saraland (about 18 miles away). I can burn one of the free nights and be sure of the quality of the room!

We'll have to plan it out as we get closer to the date.

Im seriously considering this ride, sounds like a goodtime. I will have to see if I can get that Friday off work, or maybe if all else fails I think I feel a touch of the flu coming on.

No flu shot. I hear that the incubation period is about five weeks. The fever is rising. Aches and pains. No sense giving it to your fellow workers. Better take the day off and be a ... :mcrider:

I'll be working on Friday myself, that is why I am leaving after work. It will be a long ride that evening, then a late AM start to lunch then back to Tampa. Should be back in St. Pete by 9PM Sat eve.

Clem - Are you going to run the interstate or take US-19 up to I-10?

ironmorph
11-27-2006, 04:44 PM
Probably the Interstate to get out of Tampa Bay, then cross over on 98 in Brooksville and ride 19. I will be leaving in the evening, so I will have to fight traffic rush hour leaving, coming back it makes no difference, but there will a group of bikes coming south to St. Pete for the New year. Are you thinking of doing stagecoach?

We are heading up to SC for the holidays, so it will depend on when I get home from there. I'm off work that week so work won't be a problem. What time are you going to get off work on the 29th?

ironmorph

I am under pressure to stay the whole day till 5PM on the 29th, but I am going to try to leave at 3PM and on the road by 3:30. I figure I will be at Bay Minette by 1am or so with any luck.

Clem - You still planning on making this run? Where are you staying? I think I'll be back from SC in time to do this. Provided the weather cooperates. I don't do rain in the winter. :)

I am not sure if I will do this run, but I am thinking about it. I have been in flux with work sort to speak and I am not sure if I can get off early enough to make it worth while. I am trying to get out at noon, but right now, I don't have the go ahead. I would probably stay at the windwood inn in Bay Minette, AL. Most of the riders are staying there.

Well, if it is lunch on Sat, we could leave early in the morning on Saturday. If it's 500 miles, leaving at 4:00am would put us there by noon. Do a little lunch and then ride back. Sould be back before midnight.

Looks like you take I-10 over to AL-59 and then go north until you get to Stockton. It is 533 miles (8 hr 17 min) from here. That's running the interstate from Tampa to just east of Mobile AL. It might be shorter to go up 19 but I don't think you'd make as fast a trip as you could on the interstate.

I've made the trip to Tallahassee many times. I-75 to I-10 is faster, but I-75 has alot of traffic and is prone to long backups from accidents on holiday weekends. (just a thought)....

It is 44 miles shorter but takes about the same amount of time. Since this will be 1000 mile ride for lunch, I think I'd rather run the interstate and avoid all the small towns.

Well, lets get something together make some solid plans so we can all make plans to go. I don't care either way leaving Sat would be ok and then I won't have to deal with work on Fri but I still have that cold creeping up so either way.

Trip is definite now. :pepper1:

I will be leaving on Friday morning and taking a leisurely ride! My son is navigating again, though it's pretty tough to get lost!

Staying at the Garden Inn in Daphne, AL (right off I-10) - its about 25 miles from Stockton. Planning on returning right after lunch on Saturday (want to be home by 10:00pm)

If anyone is able to do the Friday trip, let me know. We can figure out a place to meet. Otherwise, we can all hook up at the Stagecoach for the return.

This will be my last ride for a month. Having abdominal surgery on 1/8 and the doctor says no riding for 30 days. :(

Gotto to work on Friday the 29th, so this is my plan.

I am leaving Biffs in St. Pete on Friday 12/29 at 5PM, I plan on it taking a good amount of time to get out of Tampa, probably taking the interstate the whole way to get there. I plan on getting there about 2am or so. Then staying in Bay Minette over night, and getting to Stockton for lunch, and riding back Saturday about noon and getting in the Tampa bay area about 9PM or so.

I can meet anyone along the way north of Tampa Bay after 5PM, pick the spot along I75. I will probably have room for one person and floor space or so, PM me if you want to split a room.

Let me know if you plan on riding up with me by e mail, or PM or phone.

I'm going to wait until it gets a little closer before I decide on the ride going up. If it's going to be really cold, I may opt for daytiime riding although there are times its not so warm during the day. If I go up Friday evening, I'll probably just meet Ironmorph at the I-75 rest area just north of where 275 and 75 meet.

Chefbob - You still in for this ride?

I can take the cold to an extent, it's the 1000 plus rain miles that bothers me. But it is still on for me at this point. I cancel only as a last option. 8)

Looks like Mother Nature is going to be nice to us. 50's in early morning but up in the high 60's to low 70's by noon. Only 10 percent chance of rain.

Leaving in a couple of hours for a nice easy ride up 19.

Rick, Sorry you can't make it. Hope the emergency works out.

Incredible ride these past 2 days. I got there very early and took this picture of the cafe. By the time we left, the place was full. I spoke with riders from Michigan, Illinois, and Texas, all of which rode there bikes to this place for lunch. There were few VTX's there. Most of these guys ride ST's, Wings, Vee Stroms and GS1200's. Have a great 2007!http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/1997stagecoachride_041a.jpg
