my setup....
VTX1800 '03, V&H bigshots, stock airfilter, stock plugs, FI2000 fuel manager.
Just put the system together this weekend and Im "fairly" pleased with the sound EXCEPT for the periodic POPPING noise. (very embarrasing to say the least). Adjusting the FI2000 to around 4:30 on each pot, took care of the backfiring and continous popping I had. But there is still popping at a "certain" throttle setting when accelerating or high idle.
I installed the V&H bigshots myself and used the recommended crush gaskets. I dont smell or see any exhaust leaks.
Would someone explain what the popping IS, and how best to stop it?
Thanks so much,

I have basically same setup except i use a PCIII. The popping for me occurs just after cold start until warm. Then, I aslo get popping while around 1750 to 2250 rpm. I bought a #000 rubber plug as some have suggested (try search on this for pic) and plugged the pair valve intake hose inside the airbox. This solved the popping instantly, but created a gurgle noise at idle. From what I've read (searching here), I plan to do the total de-smog. The gurgle will go away along w/ the popping. Search the tech board for details on how it's done. This site is outstanding for advice on how to best treat the beast! -ride safe

Rolling Thunder (Rick) posted this about adjusting the FI2000....
FI2000 Adjustments
Ignore those numbers on the pots. They are some kind of manufacturing numbers and not related to the hour settings for you adjustments. If you turn the pots totally counter clockwise they will stop at 1 o'clock. Rotate the unit so that would be 1 o'clock and then visualize the numbers on the clock. 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock are easiest to visual. I defy anyone to be perfect on 4 or 5 o'clock and virtually impossible to determine a half an hour. I call BS on anyone who says their settings are at 3:30. If you are concerned about mileage turn the pots back to 1 o'clock and ride. If you have popping or surging turn the left pot up just a little bit. If you have hesitation on accelleration turn the right pot up a little bit. Then ride again. Be sure to ride 25 or 30 miles or so to see how it runs. If you still have problems turn the appropriate pot for the problem a little at a time and ride. When you get the ride you want, that will be your best fuel economy for your performance. Don't be fooled by the numbers on the pots!
I know a lot of people are confused by the numbers on those pots but they don't mean anything to the adjustment. It seems easiest to back off to the stop at 1 o'clock and visualize from there. I don't believe these things are very linear either. So 3 o'clock on one may not give the same results as 3 o'clock on someone elses bike with a different unit. Trial and error is my opinion but I would start low and work my way up with very minor adjustments I hope this helps.

I think it'll help. P.S. I, too, did the 000 rubber plug, but it didn't "cure" my decell popping, the correct adjustments to the FI2000 did.
