I bought some used mufflers that have some "swirl" scratch marks (from cleaning). I read that swirl marks can't be buffed out (is that true?); so, my question is that is there anyone that would re-chrome mufflers? How much would I be looking at to have something like this done?

All depends on the scratches. As for rechroming I have some mufflers in my garage that I am going to send to Badger Metal Finishing in St. Francis Wi.

If theres enough people interested in sending stuff in I might be able to arrange a "group" discount.

All depends on the scratches.

So there is something that could possibly take out light swirl scratches? What would you suggest I try?

BTW, what sort of price did they give you to do your mufflers?

Once chrome is scratched, it's scratched and can't be polished out. The chrome layer is much thinner that a paint layer if you try to polish it, it ends up going through the chrome layer and into the under layers and it looks dull or like flat paint. Try a fellow member of the VTXOA that several of us have used, Handler. Here is his website;

I have 3 pieces. 2 pipes and the collector (HK sideburners)
Its about $125.00 for the collector, $114.00 for the shorter pipe and $135.00 for the longer pipe. That one was pretty banged up. He said that the prices included "de-carbon" treatment to remove the carbon from the pieces because they were used. I am going to ask him how much if I do the de-carbon treatment. I work in an autoshop and can remove the carbon myself.

Its about the same price that Handler quoted me, and I dont have to pay for shipping.

I am going to send them to him 1 piece at a time. Spread the cost out over a few months.

He does plastic too.

I had some minor scratches in some other parts and buffed them out. It didnt remove the marks but made them harder to see.
