Well mark it on your calendar the date is set at July 13-15. You can check out some info at
http://www.nwbikers.com/WRD_VTXOAMardon.html
Last year was great weather and a good turn out. The Lava Love run is just up the road so there is plenty going on that weekend. Mardon offers great grass and shade covered parking.
The camping price is $20 per tent. There should be money left from each campsite that will be applied to food and beverage. I will reserve a group of campsites. It is important that those who want to go reserve and pay for there spot. So we can make sure to have the proper space.
Payments ($20 per tent or couple) can be made via
www.paypal.com (http://www.paypal.com) to posnews@yahoo.com I prefer pay pal.
Or you can email or pm for my address.
Dont wait for the last minute. Those who were there last year will tell you it was a blast and they will be back this year
Thanks

Dux and I will be there. When the event arrives, we intend to contribute to the food fund. Because we have indoor reservations, I suspect we should not have to pay for a tent space.
I will have some limited room in my truck for those that want to take along extra equipment but cannot carry it on their bike.
Also, my truck is fitted with a bike carrier. We may be able to use it as a sweep vehicle during organized rides, if we can find a driver.

Sounds fine to me. Anyone not camping with the group will only be expected to make food and bev contribution.

I'll be renting a room to if I go. Mariko is not a camper. Do I need to kick in camping money too or not? If there is going to be a BBQ and I think there should be, I would of course want to contribute money or food, which ever is needed. This sounds like a fun event and I would imagine there would be a pretty good turn out this year.

Reservations are made. 8 campsites @ $25 (per day) each. 50% deposit due on March 1. There is a $10 per site cancelation charge. We can add on if we need to. So breakeven is 20 paid people at $20 each. All over that goes to food, beverages, ect. It is important to get a good count early so we know if we need to add on.
Thanks

:D Glad to see we are getting it organized again. We had a great time at MarDon and with the group last year. The wife and I will be there. We will reserve our own RV spot and stay a week there. We will contribute for the BBQ and hope the poker RUN is done again? It was a perfect route and pizza lunch last year! IMO 8) 8) 8) Ed&Leslie

Oh...I'm with Ed and Leslie. Sue and I will be over there on Thursday and stay till Monday. Friends are coming over too, but not into bikes. I'd love something like last year, and Lee has said he'll take care of shirts again. We may not get the folks to miss the ride for the bbq, but we'll make it work somehow! I can't wait. :D Already have the time scheduled from work and working on the help with Dad while I'm gone.

Hi All.
Was going to wait a few more days on this. But decided it did not make a difference. I noticed a marked decline in activity on this thread since someone steped up to make the reservations. Since then we have 3 people paid. A non refundable deposit is due March 1. That is just a few weeks away. The deposit is 50% ($200.00). Gary ended up in this situation last year. With the project given to him he had to put on a last minute blitz. Not sure how many really paid in advance. Everyone who went had a great time. There are several who have reserved RV spots and maybe a motel room. But the camping bill before any food will be $400. The deposit is $200.
So I need at least 10 paid (would like more) before I can pay the nonrefundable deposit. If short on March 1 I will have to bail.
Gary is there any left from last year?
Thanks

Jeez, looks like the campers are the weak link on Mardon! I've got my reservation for one of the "Park Model" units up topside near the store. A bit spendy, but I'm not good at camping.
Come on you guys and gals, get 'er done! This was a very cool event last year, what with the poker run, the Lava run just up the road. Warm, dry, open roads....and of course the company of all your fellow X'ers.

I recently purchased a 2002 VTX 1800R, red, from Smokey Point CB. I also only recently (3 years ago) moved to Camano Island from eastern Iowa. I've been riding motorcycles for more years than I want to remember and would like to ride with some folk who know the area. I also enjoy rallys and would like to go to this one. Sign me up and I'll Paypal you. I have a little confusion. Camping is $25/ day/site and is there $20 on top of that for food and fun?

20 paid at $20 covers the campsites (8) for the weekend. We expect more then 20 so everything over will go towards food and drink. Each campsite that they charge $25 for will hold more then one camp.
So bottom line is $20 should cover it. Those who are not camping will also kick in towards the grub
Thanks

I wont be able to make the Mardon trip...the Army has other plans for me.
However, I have a few cases of wine (good stuff) in my basement that I have trying to figure out how to get rid of.
Anyone that has a support vehicle going that is interested, just PM me.
The only thing I ask is when Randy gets about 6...or 20 beers in him and decides to guzzle a bottle, get video. If he wont put it on nwbikers.com, we will post it somewhere else.

Randy has explained it to me, cause I didn't quite understand how it worked at first either. :D
Basically, each campsite is $25/night. We can get up to (4) tents per camp-site (is that about right, Randy?). So, for (2) nights, each campsite will run $50 total. Divide that (4) ways = $12.50. The extra $7.50 will go towards the food/drinks.
That help? :D

According to my best planning... we will be able to cruise up to Mardon on Saturday, meet & greet, but at in cafe [Sharon Lovs us!] and stay in motel [or Park Model if available].
Please, on Friday, clearly mark all the dammm hidden, nearly underground bbq pits before we arrive. We will have just come in from La Grande to TX coast to Mardon, and will be in no mood for bbq foolishness. [Nor for Jeff's dance, for that matter. smile]
Randy, we'd make more solid arrangements with you if we could, but things like weather & motorcycles can slow folks down. If we make it, we'll chip in appropriately. If we're short, charge it to Jon... another smile.
We'll try not to be too tanned for you folks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the east and west motel(s) have been replaced with the park cottages. Quite a bit more expensive but all include 2 bedrooms, air conditioning, fireplace, full kitchen, TV and a nice deck.
Just a FYI

Bob, thanks for the update... We have stayed in the Park Models before. They sound just like your description, but they are way away from our main campsite... too far for this guy to walk, if you remember The Fall!
But, Colleen reminds me that they were going to tear down the motels [aka Pieces of Crap Inn] and build some park Model types... and they'd be right where we stayed last year, ie close enough.
I'll call them and see what the deal is. We will also go there this spring a time or two and can check it out in person. We'll keep you informed. Unless you plan on boating up there... grin.

I've got a park model reserved where the East Motel used to be for the Rally. I think I was quoted $140 per night.
As for me boating there, my tub is a bit oversize for that venue at 44ft and 22 tons. Even if I could reach it by water it would take quite awhile to get there at 10kt (12mph). Not to mention the fuel as I burn about a gallon per nautical mile......those stops at the fuel dock are painful these days! 500 gallons wasn't so bad 10 years ago when I was paying 61 cents a gallon.
So you won't see me worrying about the fuel economy on my X...or the $140 per night...
It's all relative...

We rearranged our trip and just made/paid for a Park Model for Friday & Saturday nights. Bob [aka '...onaboat'], looks like we'll be neighbors, so keep the noise down.
We'll be getting in late afternoon, I imagine. Will just have swung in from trip to Texas Gulf Coast and various parts of that great state, a trip we start on June 14th. So we'll be fat [one month of road food and no gyms!] and tired. Please move all the damn bbq pits. [I joke about that fall, but it hurt. Thank goodness I'd had a beer or two to cover the pain.]
Randy, we can talk about covering our end financially Saturday if that's okay. We still plan on eating in cafe and we bring our own cheap but deadly beer, and we have a place to sleep.
Tony, Walt, Lee, Brian, Steve, Doug, Jan, Vicki, Marilyn, everyone... heck, even Jeff, it'll be good to see you all again.
Jason, I think we'll be heading thru Umatilla around 2/4, but we can firm it up if you want to meet again. He///, last time it worked well... But I understand there may be even further Oregon-ers going. Careful, they are a wild bunch.
Walt, PLEASE be there; you are the onliest one older than me!

First, about Mardon: I estimate Umatilla noon-ish, but we can agree to adjust on the road... Maybe we agree to stop the bikes at 10 and one of us call the other to check eta?
Second, you riding this way would be nice, but we are leaving 14 June for the southern trip. The 2 weeks before we will be in & out of Baker for new tires, trip-checks and such from our dealer. On one of the remaining weekends [May] we could meet you somewhere for lunch/beer, Pendleton, Boardman, whatever. Or, you could ride to Baker on Jun 8th... that's Hells Canyon Rally. We'll be there but coming home for the night--rooms are no longer available. You could take the sofa here?
Third, and most important: best of luck with the delivery. Overdo son, eh? Too bad, man. I was an overdo son and look at my fat a$$!
Jim
one way or the other if i head east for a overnight trip i will drop a line. i appreciate the invite for a sofa but if you have a quite place where i can park the bike and sleep next to it that is just fine to.

What is the plan?
tony, my plan is to meet up with J & C in the umatilla turn off area from 84 around noonish. have a cold one(if your so inclined) in some air conditioning then get back on the road in the desert heat, and onto mardon.
furthermore i would love any company leaving the portland area. my plan at this point is to leave thursday evening after rush hour and make it to the dalles or maybe just the hood river area and find camping. reason is that this is one of the few rides i have planned so the sooner im on the road the better. my plans can always be changed to accompany a good friend though.

Tony, I thought you were BSing! If you are not, it'd be a really good thing to have you join us from Umatilla. Colleen sends her enthusiastic second on this.
Jason, you leting go the notion of Hells Canyon Rally? We will be there, just cruising town, not doing the rides thru canyons, and returning home late afternoon. You are still welcome to crash at our place [in it or at it].
We'll be in Umatilla noonish and do our best not to be too late and cause you to have too many cold ones while waiting.

Well, hot damm, this is cool!
To be honest, we were a bit concerned about this last leg of or trip. Would we be too tired after running from Galveston to Mardon in 7 days? But it looks like the Umatilla leg to the campsite may well be the best part.
How about I lead you along the river to Pasco? That alone is a very nice ride and only a few miles longer.
Welcome, Randy; eager to meet you.

Bob
How about we take the bikes on the boat out around the coast up the Columbia to the Snake then up around Ice Harbor damn and ride into Mardon. Sounds like a good month long vacation at 10 knots

We may pass, for a couple of reasons. One, Colleen may be tired and we just hang out at the lake, maybe chat with Walt aka diamond [unless he's learned how to ride that big F by now... ]. Two, our tires will not have been replaced from our Texas excursion, and we might not have tread enough for an extra 2-300 miles.

I have also taught Maryln how to push me back (without falling over) when I stop to close to anything.
I just ordered the advanced training wheel set (flashers and streamers) so I feel I just might enjoy this summers riding. I will also bring back the set you loaned me.
I am not sure about making the long ride. As long as we don't have to stop, put our feet down or turn right, I might try it.

Man, Walt, I do love a sense of humor.
But just for the record, I have no doubt you could leave me so far behind when you're on that beautiful F... but then almost everyone can.
But maybe that's a good thing, because when it happens I have the opportunity to calculate everyone's rate of change in distance with respect to time, and then distance with respect to time with respect to time-- which is one of my favorite things to do. Until 5 oclock, that is! Then I do the same with servers in the bar!
Seriously, we are so very much looking forward to Mardon. We'll be tired, broke, and likely sunburned as heck, but we wouldn't miss this for anything. Old friends [though not many as old as diamond!] and new folks who aren't friends yet.
Ride safe and wish us luck. We head south next week!

:D Well, I stopped by Mardon today(sunny and nice). We were over to our oldest son's place in Soap Lake and swung by on the way back. We needed to check out a place to stay this year during the Mardon BBQ. Mardon had no place for me and the State Park was booked up on Sat. the 14th. I didn't want to be moving around on the day of the poker run and the BBQ. I found a little place called The Last Resort. It is right on hwy 262 and just across the street from the Shell station and store/market. I booked Izzy and I a place for a week there. So it is looking like Izzy and us will be there from 7/10-7/16th. We will be there practicing our riding, beer drinking, relaxing and story telling on Tuesday the 10th of July!! Any of you drysiders want to take a ride out and say Hi, we will be around! Anyone coming over early stop by and get a cool soda we are about a mile west of Mardon in space 1 & 2... just off the hwy. You can't miss us. I have a 40ft. Cross Terrain toyhauler and Izzy has a 36 ft. motorhome. You will see them from the road.(Between the golf course and the shell station on the lake side of the raad... :D :D :D 8) 8) 8)

It is warm enough there that last year I used a fleece sleeping back liner, you can get chairs that collapse pretty small, Coleman clothes storage bags could get a 2 sets of clothes for a couple days and into one saddle bag. The other saddle bag will have your 2 fleece sleeping bags. Each should have room for odd and ends. Your luggage rack can carry the tent and sleeping pads/air matterass, and chairs.

I have a 2 room tent that I have never used I can bring, if you or anyone else needs the use of it....
Let me know and I can bring it over.
