We're forming a small group of folks would enjoy long distance riding in the Atlanta area. Unfortunately, at this point the VTX is not well represented.
If you're interested in joining others for long rides (200-300 miles per weekend and 1,000+ mile days on occassion) please PM or email me.

If you like longer rides, you might check out the gl1800riders site, sister site to this one. These guys RIDE. The last time I hooked up with them it was 400 miles around north Ga. KSL is usually around 6:30 am or so, and stops just for food and gas.
If the weather looks ok, I'm planning to tag along on this next one:

It's a lunch run from Atlanta to St. Augustine and back (about 800 miles). I'm actually planning to stay down there overnight and come home on Sunday. I'm building up, but I don't think I'm ready for an 800 mile day yet.

Thanks for the idea, Backwoods. That might be a fun group to ride with.
Actually, I'm a member of both the Iron Butt Association and the Motorcycle Tours Forum http://mctourer.com/. The MTF does a lot of Ride To Eat events the one this month is in Tombstone, AZ
We've got a great MTF RTE coming up in March. We're calling it "The Masters" RTE with lunch at Sconyer's BBQ in Augusta on Saturday March 31st (the Saturday before The Masters golf thingy). It's still a bit early but over 30 folks as far away as Texas and Canada have already signed up.
Let me know if you'd like more information or if you'd like to join the ride and the lunch.
Also, I'm still interested in meeting others who might like to do all day rides on weekends. Run a few 300 to 500 mile days and the long rides become much easier

That Augusta ride sounds interesting. Yes, I’d like some more info about it.
I'd like to eventually be comfortable doing +500 mile days, but right now that's pushing it. On the VTX my longest ride was in the upper 300's, and on the Wing about 420 miles. The Wing provides better wind protection, which really helps on long rides, but the riding position is actually more relaxed on the VTX. By the end of that 420 mile day I was pretty tired.

Augusta I would do but I don't have a windshield and, well, would rather not get one right now... so... Augusta would probably be my max limit for the day...

ldrjim, keep us informed on the augusta ride. even though Trixie and I are in Savannah we'd love to shoot up to Augusta to meet yall and have some good BBQ. Sconyers is one of our favorite places to eat and just need a good excuse to head up there.
I am just N of Savannah. Blackwing would you like some company on that ride?
Off track I have been trying to get to the Island Grill to meet some folks but work won't let me.

Always room for one more Larry! We try to ride much as possible so drop us a line. We're doing a poker run this Sunday to help out the parents of a 6mo old baby. They have about a million in uncovered med expenses for the baby. The Ride starts in Rincon @ Jail House Choppers. If interested let us know. And if you can make it to Bike night we should be there. Rain is suppose to be gone this evening so may ride there.
Where in SC are you?

Blackwing, Trixie, and BYBS: There's a large group planning to ride up from the Savannah area for "The Masters" RTE. Some are from a SCRC chapter while others are members of the Concour of Georgia riders.
Let me know if you want to hook up with them for the ride.

Here are details about the event in Augusta:
Announcing "The Masters" RTE in Augusta, GA Saturday March 31, 2007.
If the weather in Augusta is good enough for the big golf tourney the first week in April it seems like the Saturday before should be OK for riding. It's this strange logic that yielded "The Masters" RTE!
Sconyers BBQ http://www.sconyersbar-b-que.com/index.htm will be our meeting place and I hope can reserve the private dining room.
We'll start the parking at 10 AM and with the feeding frenze commencing at 11:30 AM.
Sconyers BBQ is located at 2250 Sconyers Way, Augusta, GA 30906-3400. It's BEHIND the shopping center (you actually enter the shopping center and then turn left onto Sconyers Way) at the corner of Windsor Spring Road and Peach Orchard Road (US 25) and is easily accessed off I-520 from I-20.
Plan to join us for great food and motorcycle fun!

Backwoods, Stockbridge1300, and Littlejohnny: Are we all in the Atlanta area? If so, let's find a nice place to meet for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning (once the weather gets a little warmer). We could talk about long distance riding and then wander off for a few hours of saddle time.
