Getting ready to put some new shoes on the X, will probably order online.

Can anyone give a referral for a shop (dealer or independent) who wont charge an arm and a leg to put the tires on? (My local Honda dealer wont mount tires not purchased from their parts dept.)

I used cycle gear across from the Tacoma mall 2501 S 38th st 253 475 5444 they mounted a car tire for thirty bucks. They had a nice machine and had no problem with putting a car tire on a bike rim. so they will do about anything. Said they sell tires very cheap give them a call. Jim

Funny thing. SS Honda in Olympia mounted my front tire I ordered form HDL. They will be doing the rear next month, again ordered for HDL. Go figure. Did you purchase the bike from them or a private party?

I purchased my X from a private party. SS Honda has done all my servicing (I like their work). But... they have this HUGE sign in the service area that says they will not mount tires purchased outside of their dealership - and their posted tire mounting prices seem really high. IF I buy the tires from them, then they'll mount F and R for $128 (Which is less than the posted sign). So... I'm weighing the options since I can get the tires for less if I go online; the missing component being where to get them mounted.

Did you buy your bike from them? If so, or if you're one of their "special" customers (I forget what they call them; but it's for when you buy the bike from the dealer), that may be why they will mount HDL tires.

Guess I wont know until I give 'em a call and see what's up.

Thanks for the info; I'll give em a call. For the $30 price, did you bring the wheel in or did they take it off (and put it back on) the bike?

Have you tried Vince's out on Martin Way? He just moved a little farther east, down by Tanglewild. He's done the work on my 1980 CB750 almost since it was new. I went by to buy some gloves and show him the X recently, but I haven't used him to work on it. Nice guy and has been in business for more than 25 years.

Brother Honda here in Bremerton is doing mine for $100 (front and rear). At first this seemed expensive, but then realized the labor involved with removing the final drive, disc setup, etc. So guess it's not bad. I bought mine from HDL and they are mounting. If purchased from them, it would only be $80. I'd rather have someone that knows the bike and assembly.

Now if we can get some good weather so I can take it there!

I took the wheel in and paid thirty bucks for the mount and ballance.
removing the wheel is pretty easy two bolts the final stays in place the wheel slips out. Mines an R so ya gotta jack it up higher and a car tire even more. Jim

Don't say anything about where you purchased the tire. Parts upstairs and service downstairs have a disconnect. Try Vince on Martin Way if it becomes a problem.

BTW, I only take them the wheel and new tire to save a few $.

So, I called SS Honda and service says they used to enforce the policy of not mounting tires not purchased from them, but they now do mount as long as the customer acknowledges that they (SS Honda) are not responsible for anything with the tire after the install and that if there is an issue with the tire and it has to be returned, they don't remove the tire unless they get paid for the time/labor. I've got no problem with that policy, that's just common sense, so, it's $128 for F&R if I bring the bike in. If I can get their Parts Dept to get close to $$ for the tires, I'll probably just do the whole thing with them.

Thanks for the input from everyone!

It's a bit of a drive but did you call Hinshaw's?

I did, but it was in regards to buying the tires from them (cost was slightly higher than online) and their fee to install tires bought from them was higher than SS Honda's. (This was about 3 months ago that I phoned them.)
