Kind of unothodox approach here but I was wondering if I could tap a resource here. When I get back from this deployment I am wanting to do one of 2 things or a combination. I will be done with the Army as soon as we finish our de-mob process and will be looking for a job. I want to try and get a State or Fed job in Georgia as well as continue my military career with the Air National Guard. Do any of ya'll have a contact with which I could reach and discuss career paths? I have tried websites such as FedJobs and what not but they all want me to subscribe to actually access or apply for a job. As ya'll can imagine my search time and resources are limited here being in Iraq. Any help would be appreciated.

I can hook you up with a couple of our federal sites for postal type stuff on Monday when I get back in, Joe. We also give veterans preference for jobs too. Stay Safe!

What Air National Guard unit are you talking to. You can get a listing of all open Guard jobs at www.gahro.com.. (http://www.gahro.com..). I'm full time at the flying wing in Savannah 165AW (c-130's). What is your MOS?

Chris I was 1A331 Airborne Communications and Electronics Specialist and 3A031 Information Management when I was AD Air Force. Add 11B Infantryman with the Army now. My first assignment when I was active AF was to be 71st Rescue at Moody but I ended up with 347 instead. I havn't spoke with anyone yet because the recruiters are saying they won't touch me till I'm home and out of the Army with DD214 in hand. Even though I ETS'd 4DEC06. So it's a wait and see game with the Air Guard.

Joe,
Have you thought about a career as a State Trooper?

My dad retired from the Federal (Post Office,) my mother worked for the city a short time (Atlanta,) my wife retired from the State (GA) and I retired from the county (Fulton.) All things considered, I’d have to say a county job is more tolerable of the four to work for because it seems there is less political crap going own to interfere with your job and career as a government employee.

I havn't ever really thought about law enforcement. Well except to fly. Aviation is in my blood and while never actually getting my license I have attended 2 flight schools and hope to learn to fly helo's before I get out of the military. Please keep the info flowing. Options are a man's best friend when coming home from deployment.

Time to re-visit this again. I have been home since the 18th of August and I have 0 leads for jobs. I have applied for all the jobs locally that I qualify for and even some that I don't. Apparently while I was gone the whole job market went to the internet. I can't get a single person to talk to me without saying,"go to our website and apply online."
And yes, I am looking into Law Enforment now. 2 weeks no work, no leads, I'm game for just about anything. Oh no, left myself wide open for LJNJ.
