I'm joining up with a local group here in Chicago area (all brands welcome) and heading out early Friday a.m. Spend the night in W. VA, then into D.C. Saturday.
Rolling Thunder staging at the Pentagon parking lot Sunday a.m. (opening at 6:45) leave at noon to D.C. across from Korean War Memorial.
Then back out Monday, getting back to Chicago Tuesday.

Which chapter did you join or ride with. I live in Batavia and they say there is a Warrenville chapter. The committment is pretty tough, and being a 54 year old brand new rider, I am not ready for that yet. Made in 2 years. That is my goal. To be part of Rolling Thunder and make the ride for our Brothers that didn't make it home.

I went with three groups:
City Heat - Chicago P.D. group
American Knights - other P.D. and friends in the Chicago area
Chained Eagles - Marysville, OH chapter, these are friends, realitives, or actual POW / MIA
I endorse waiting until you have a bit more miles under your belt. Why I say this is due to group riding: packs surge quite a bit, and being able to keep in flow with these surges (and sometimes substantial speeds and/or braking) is a very important (safety) aspect of being part of a group.
And, of course, there is the issue of the "cagers" out to get you no matter how big of a group you're in. In this example, we had two riders that were well within this lady's perpherial vision (front left wheel well of her car to the bikes rear right bag), and she claims she didn't see fifty motorcycles on her side!
