Hi guys,
Me & the family are planning on heading your way this summer.
So far I have flights to Philadelphia & a hire car !
We plan to spend a few days there taking in the city sights....but then where should we go ? I was maybe thinking of heading towards Gettysburg...then who knows where.
Would like to know any places that are worth a look see. We will be there for 14 days so we should be able to get around..
Dont even mind buying you guys a few beers while I'm there..
Any suggestions would be welcomed
Thanks
Dave

Dave,
Valley Forge, Brandywine Battlefield, and Gettysburg are well worth a vist. The Philadelphia museums, zoo, and historic area are great. The Amish areas of Lancaster County are another worthwhile visit. Pittsburgh is a very nice city to visit, as well. The Pennsylvania "Grand Canyon" in Wellsboro is nice. Even the Harley-Davidson Assembly Plant in York has a good museum and tour.
Depending on schedule conflicts, I'd be happy to meet up with you sometime.

I agree with Gus above. He named some interesting sights and even coming over to the Pittsburgh area for a visit and look see. What are your interests and we might be able to give you some better insight as to what to see. Depending on the schedules, if you get over here in the Pittsburgh area I'd bee happy to meet up with you as well.

Plus 2 on all those suggestions.
I would also get the family down to cape May, New Jersey, about 70 miles east of Philadelphia. Nice town old victorian homes fabulous restarants, very little honky tonk. The kids will love the beach you and your wife will like the rest.

Thanks for the input guys,
I'll get the map out & start plotting... the wife doesnt want to spend 2 weeks living out of a suitcase so the plan is to stay in a few places for a few nights.
We like to see the real America ...ie not just the usual tourist spots but anywhere that might be worth a look see...
I was planning on Harrisburg as there's a Bass Pro shop there....spent a fortune the last time I visited one of them
When I've worked out a clearer plan I'll let you know, then maybe we can arrange for a beer...
Thanks
Dave

Dave,
If you liked Bass Pro Shops you will love Cabelas ! It is a HUGE sporting goods store located about 60 northeast of downtown Philadelphia . Your children will love it as well.

I would recommend a stop in Pittsburgh, pick up a pirate game and then a nice ride on our inclines...Grab a primanti Bros sandwich while your at it. We are supposed to have one of the best zoos around. I am sure the kids would love that.
All the places gus mentioned are GREAT. I personally need to get the the Pennsylvania "Grand Canyon" I hear it is a nice sight.
Well, hope that helps. Have fun in PA!

Place an order with HDL before you get here and have it shipped to one of your mates in PA  . Pick it up while you are here.
I'm sure someone down near where you'll be staying would volunteer to recieve the goods and hold them for your arrival. I'm over an hour an a half away or I would do it for you.

Try to take in New York city. But dont try to stay there. Get a hotel in Secaucus,NJ. Take a bus trip. Pittsburgh is a sight to see....maybe stay in the suburbs( Monroeville) and we may have to take ya out to our monthly Hooters nite.....

Hey Duffy,
I hope you get accomodations while at the shore. Just a heads up, there are 3 "Wildwoods" at the shore, Wildwood Crest, Wildwood and North Wildwood. From my recollection Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood are very nice and family oriented with beautiful wide beaches. WILDWOOD can be a little dicey... there's a lot more honky Tonk bars, noise etc, a lot of young adults and all the wildness that goes with amatures. If you go a few townes north to Avalon and Stone Harbor It's more family oriented. If you really get stuck, you can go on the west side of the Bay(back on the mainland) and usually can find hotel rooms on short notice. That puts you 6 to 8 mile... I mean 8 to 10 kilometers (the metric system feels like you get more for your money, doesn't it) from the beach but, it's better than sleeping under the stars.
I saw your schedule and it looks like a pretty fun and agressive schedule. But, if you want some company and maybe have time for a ride some of us might like to meet you. Maybe we could find you a bike for a ride... let us know what might be your best day... don't forget your wife and kids may not want to let you go... on the other hand if your insurance is paid up she might really encourage you :!:
Just my 2 pence worth.

Sounds like you're gonna busy but if you get close the "forgotten city" of Erie is about 2 hours north of Pittsburgh..and we have a most beautiful state park, presque isle, which is right on Lake Erie, very nice beaches there...also Splash Lagoon, an indoor water park that is connected to several hotels, is one of my kids favorites, also a very nice zoo here, though not as big as pittsburghs, bike nights of various sizes seven nights a week and what i believe is the most pubs per capita in the WORLD. :D
But best of all a more relaxed pace and more reasonable prices than the bigger cities...and i'm sure i could a arrange a bike for you. Have a good trip no matter where you go though!

Hey Ghost, thanks for the heads up...it now looks like I'm lodging with the rowdies... in Wildwood  to be honest we'll just use it as a base & spend most of our time moochin around the cape area..
Have now finalised plans for the last few days...it gets busy !
20th ..hit the HD plant, then onto Gettysburg then will probably head upto Harrisburg.
From Harrisburg heading up to Wellsboro..scenary looks fantastic up there..
Wellsboro...to Mongomery NY...no prizes for why I'm going there.. 8)
finally driving back to Philadelphia on 24th...exhausted to catch flight home !!!
Cramming a lot in...but what the hell thats half the fun...
Would be great to meet up...I was thinkin of hiring a bike...but dont think id get much time...
Cheers
Dave
