Hey guys, is there a inexpensive system out there that is battery operated for bike to bike communication. My riding buddy and I are toying with the idea of talking between us as we travel. Dont want to plug in or hard wire anything................................Does anyone make such and animal that we can just slap on our helmets and go? Not looking for a long distance device, just something that can be heard with a range of maybe 1/2 mile or so..............................?
Thanks,

You can use FRS or GMRS two-way radios. Or portable/handheld CBs. One or both of you probably already have one or the other. The problem is finding a good headset that fits your needs and is loud and clear enough to hear. And FRS/GMRS radios won't communicate with a CB.
Do some searches on headsets and you'll get lots of opinions.

If you shop around you might find one for $100 but they list for $149.

The wife and I use chatterbox's and love them. The voice activation is horrible so we just use the bush button that goes on the handle bar with a little wire out of the jacket. We use them all the time and they work flawlessly.

hey guys, a simple request: When discussing communicators can you let us know if you are wearing a helmet, and if so full, open, etc? Thanks!

Midland makes some nice units with all kinds of Helmet headsets/earbuds/throat mikes and the like.
keep in mind that to use GMRS legally it takes an $85 FCC license. Nice- huh!
