I have a 2006 1300 and when I put the BUB's on I checked the plugs about 500 miles later and noticed they were pretty sooted/black on the threaded part of the plug. I have read where these bikes are pretty rich.

I got a K&N filter and put new plugs in at the same time and took it out for a 20 mile ride, mostly 45 to 75 mph, got back and pulled the plugs to see that there was some soot on the threads but the porcelain was white and the electrode was a tanish/black so I though it was too lean so I put the stock filter back in. The bike is running fine. But I have put a hole in a piston (2 cycle) about 25 years ago and don't want to see it again.
I have ordered the new A/F Needle from Hicks and the D tool to remove the current A/F.
Here is where I am going with this, I am thinking that I am too lean with the K&N filter installed so I think the SCARs method is the way to go with 3 .010" shims under the needle and the A/F cranked out 2.5 turns. I am looking for that light tan color on the porcelain.
Does anyone have my setup in FL and done this modification?
It would save me a lot of time 'getting it right the first time'.

Thanks for your input,
Jim NE of Orlando (Geneva Fl).
